FWIW, Sean Tierney and Micah McCurdy listed ROR deal as a top15 bargain non ELC in hockey using WAR stars....

I would love the Sabres trade, but that doesn't make sense for Philly. Coots-Nolan will be solid center depth for years, don't hamper Nolan's development for ROR.

I tend to think it's at least perfectly fair. He'll have only just turned 32 when it expires so you're not paying for loads of declining skill level years, he's good for 20 goals and around 60 points (on bad Buffalo teams) and he's a strong two way player.

I disagree that having 3 great centres hampers anything. They could all get plenty of ice time and see special team time too. Plus O'Reilly can play wing if it came to that (say we had another you centre like Frost be incredible at centre).

For Simmonds, Hagg, and a 1st Buffalo is going to need to eat up some of ROR's contract for me to be on board. I think a lot of people are undervaluing what Hagg brings to the table.

Idk if I’d want Simmonds if every Philly team is dumping him. His age and lack of contract also don’t work well with the Sabres time line.

I do not know, we would certainly be useful such a winger as Simmonds, and the first round looks attractive, but I know little about the Hagg, yet of course the deal does not make sense if Simmonds does not sign the extension.

Coots Patrick Frost is our center depth going forward. Unless ROR plays wing it wouldn't work. If he does play wing then why trade Simmonds to get him. Doesn't make sense to me. Plus with the adversity that Simmonds went through this year I don't want to lose a warrior like that. Despite the potential trade talk around Simmonds, I don't think he will get traded as Hextall has already stated that he wants to keep him and for good reason.
That being said I like the Boedker trade. I think that uses PHI cap room nicely but not sure if SJ wants to get rid of him as they are all in this year with all of the expiring contracts coming up. Hypothetically it works. However, it only would work in this scenario as we wouldn't need more wingers if we keep Simmonds.
I really like the Myers trade. He would be great here being a right handed D and with decent contract. Essentially 1st for Myers and since we have multiple 1sts it makes sense. Hope that actually happens. That would be a significant upgrade in every way from Gudas

Despite putting up average rookie stats from the blueline, Hagg was our best shutdown D this year and has a lot of room to grow. He was top 3 in the league in hits for the majority of the year. Assuming Beaulieau stays (who knows) it wouldn't work with BUF D. Dahlin, Scandella, Bealieau already on left side. However if Bealieau leaves then this could be a huge acquisition for BUF

I'm baffled why people keep getting us a 1 or 2C...Patrick showed in the second half of the year that he is the real deal. Why bury him down the lineup for 5 years? I don't get the SJ trade at all. Why Boedker? He hasn't shown anything for like 5 years.

LHD Buffalo - Scandella, Dahlin (can play RHD), McCabe, Guhle, Pilut (recently signed defender from the SHL, has been voted the League's best defender this season) and Beaulieu who would not like to see in Buffalo next season, we probably need a RHD, but maybe Hagg will come in handy, I don't know.

He's a very strong 2 way center and when you consider the cap going up its not so bad. However 5 years is a long time.

I think its more the idea of having 3 scoring lines and 3 very strong centers; I feel most contending teams have this depth as well. I don't think you have to bury Patrick with bringing in ROR. It gives us options and perhaps finally an upgraded 2nd PP unit. Couts-Patrick-ROR would be a nightmare to match up against imo. I'm not saying go make this trade, but I can understand the idea of it.

Boedker brings depth scoring and speed he's paid too much but by about half a million, San Jose could do with cap if they want Thornton back or other upgrades.

I don't get the burying Patrick argument. If you give the 3rd line decent players there's enough ice time out there to play 3 strong lines. Plus O'Reilly can play wing. Plus he could be traded down line if need be. With the cap probably going up more than what I've suggested and likely to keep doing over the coming years his contract gets relatively better over time.

Everyone is trading him because it makes the most sense for the return it could get us. With all the young guys coming into our team his next contract could hinder us cap wise but he's good enough that he could get us a decent return. He's also a beast on the PP but Patrick kind of took his spot last season too.

I hope we re-up Simmer. He is great on the PP, a very solid PKer and brings leadership and heart.

I'm a little hesitant to re-up Simmer... I love the guy but he's due a nice raise for the steal of a contract he's been playing on. I wonder how much we "need" him down the line when we have guys like Allison or even Ratliff in our system. I think from a management perspective it would be wise to explore trading options. Also, if you can move Simmonds you can possibly add JVR via FA as a replacement (on the left side).

If we ad JVR by moving Simmer then sure but otherwise, I prefer Simmer for 4 x 5.5 (max i would pay). He is proven and has those intangibles. Allison might be closer than Ratcillfe but I don't see either being ready for another year or 2. Do you think Allison will be anything more than a 4th liner?

I think Allison has solid potential myself, he has size and skill and the metrics for equating college production to NHL production already place him as a contributing 3rd liner worth over 40 points. I know these averages don't count for **** in the end but he has real talent.

Well, for starters I would happily sign that Simmonds deal. But I think he asks for more or another team overpays. I think Allison could have joined the Phantoms for this upcoming season, but he decided to return to Michigan. If he didn't get injured, he would have most likely been a Hobey Baker Finalist. His stock has only gone up since we drafted him and at age 20, he's bigger than Wayne. Supposedly Allison had one of the better shots last September at camp and that its an "NHL shot." Having said all of this, no clue if he'll be more than a 4th liner lol. I do think there's potential for him to be a top 6 winger. He has produced at every level and improves yearly. Seems to be a shoot-first winger which is something the Flyers could use.
