Athanasiou is technically a free agent since he signed a 1 year deal last year. you don't have to trade for a RFA. you can sign them like a UFA but if you sign a RFA you lose draft picks depending on the AAV of the deal

yes they would which is where his logic is a little faulty. and if you remember correctly AA almost went to the KHL cuz Detroit wouldn't give him the money he wanted
