Let's be real, he would have never gone to Montreal

Sounding like the Kings or Leafs could be the front runners.

It all depends on if he makes it to July 1st. The exact quotes on all the sources I'm seeing have him resigning with NYI, not "I'm not going to Montreal" If anything it would be a three way tie between MTL, STL and SJS. Montreal would be prepared to shell out some major money for him.

The guy wrote that Tavares has his destinations sorted in no particular order as Isles, Kings, Leafs.

Isles are probably still the favorites to keep Tavares, If he leaves the Islanders then probably either the Kings or Leafs would be next.

that LA trade makes no sense, MTL gets worse, and gets rid of their 1st rounder

Honestly the Devils would be perfect for JT still close to NYC have plenty of money. A young up and coming team of the future.

I have a hard time seeing him leave the Isles. Harder time seeing him sign with MTL. I'm guessing SJS, STL, or VGK if he does leave.

If he wants to win NYI is not the place to be. They are a disaster of a franchise and even though Lou is there now, they are years away from contending in any form.

Seems foolish to rule out teams before having a chance to hear their pitch. Personally I don't have high hopes for him. But to rule teams out early just seems dumb.

With Barzal on the rise, what any franchise needs to win is two solid centers. That has to be a factor.

However, I'm just not sure their D and G situation is good enough. Years away may be correct.
