The sens would want their 1st back. so drop the 2nd, switch the COL 1st with OTT's and probably add the sens 3rd from CBJ

Ottawa definitely would want their pick back but in all honesty, that pick could be worth more than Karlsson.

Allow me to explain. Ottawa is currently a massive dumpster fire, drama everywhere. Karlsson is getting traded for sure and right after him would be Hoffman. When that happens, does Duchene want to stay through another last place finish like he did in Colorado? Not likely so he'll want to be moved. How about Stone? Perhaps he wants to leave as well then. Ottawa right now is my pick to finish last next year. And when that happens they have the best shot at 1st overall. If I'm Sakic, I'm sitting back and hoping the Sens keep this years pick, cause next year a guy who may be in the McDavid, Matthews level is going 1st overall.

So even if Senators offered Karlsson by himself for just their pick I think I'd decline that. I know it sounds insane but Colorado is a decent team and one that is on the rise. They will be able to add a high level prospect this year or potentially the 1st overall pick next year.

So if I am Dorion, and I am told to trade Karlsson, he'd be wise to tell Colorado that they'll be giving them the 4th pick this year. Cause next year's #1 could be first overall.

Colorado isn't giving it back. Ottawa 1st is very likely to be a top 10, possibly a top 5. Ottawa went full Homer Simpson on that one. Jost, Makar, a 1st and 2nd would be a pretty good return for Ottawa since Karlsson likely won't resign to a rebuilding team. Karlsson must agree to sign contract though or trade wouldn't happen. Colorado is not giving all that up for 1 year. Karlsson to Colorado would make them legit contenders in the west with Mackinnon and Rantanen up front. It's a win win trade IMO.

I think that's about fair. I think Bobby Ryan might have to be included in the trade. Then the Avalanche can trade Barrie for picks if they start having cap issues when Karlsson and the RFA's need to be signed.

Avs aren't getting Karlsson without giving that Ottawa 1st back, Sens would absolutely demand it.

Pretty much. If I traded either of those it's as part of a package to get a top class forward.
