Toronto has no appetite for the Hanafin trade. Not that Nylander is way better or any of that crap that typical Leaf fans spout, but more along the lines of that trade doesn't meet any needs and creates a problem for TO. Nylander will likely play centre for TO this year. Hanafin is a LHD and they are stacked on the left side with Reilly, Gardiner and Dermott. Yes Hanafin could be viewed as an upgrade over Gardiner and Dermott, however I don't think its enough of an upgrade to send Nylander and create a big hole upfront while not addressing the issue of RHD depth on the blue line.

    No the trade

Say, let's suppose that Hanifin was a RHD, would you do the trade then?

Honestly no I wouldn't. Nylander is part of the core in Toronto, Hanifin is a good defenceman but he isn't what Toronto needs. On top of that, trading offence for defence literally never works. Hall for Larson.

My take on Hanifin is this, he's a very good skater and can carry the puck well, his shot is just okay and his physical game is lacking.

My take on Nylander is that he is extremely gifted but has consistency issues. If he learns to put it all together for a full season, he is utterly dominant.

For me the ceiling for Nylander is way higher than Hanifin which is why it would take a lot for me to move Nylander.

EDM trade doesn't work that puts us into a season with no NHL goalie and gives up what will be our best prospect for a 2 year rental at probably the same position (RD)

Are you a Hurricanes fan? Because I like that trade from a Flyers perspective, wouldn't from a Canes perspective

No, I'm not a fan of Hurricanes. I'm just speculating here.
