I'm not sure if proposing Nylander for Martinez is worse, or signing him to a 3yr/$3M deal, or then trading him away to dump Dion Phaneuf. It's all so bad.

Nylander is restricted and his pay is irrelevant to this scenario because he's being flipped to Montreal as an incentive to take Dion. So make it 5/$5mm, doesn't really matter cuz Montreal will pay it. They need the winger help. Toronto needs a top D-man and getting Martinez is a good deal because he still under contract. Besides, Toronto can't afford to resign Nylander anyways, now having Tavares and then AM to pay out. Forget about it, they need to shed $$$ not resign. And they don't need wingers, they need Dmen. It's more attractive to send Nylander and DP than AM and DP to montreal because they'd never do that.
