I don't think Montreal wants Brassard. Montreal could have just got any number of the fringe 2nd line centers that were UFA. I think their plan at center for now is for some of Poehling, Kotkaniemi, Olofsson, Hillis, McShane, Ikonen to develop into that (and future draft picks). Maatta is more likely target.

If Pacioretty signs for $6M, he is taking a $2M discount. Not sure he does that after losing money on his last contract.

If they trade Pacioretty its for younger players. And him at $6 million is a pipe dream after Kane and JVR getting $7

Brassard isn’t a “fringe” 2C. He’s a solid 2C, who can do some 1C duties. He’s a 3C for the Pens for obvious reasons. And MTL didn’t go after any FA’s because they were trying to land O’Rielly.

This why the Pens won't give up good young players for him. Matta probably the best they would get. Won't get Sprong, or Jordy, or Gunz for sure.
He's really nothing but a rental to the Pens. 1 year and he's out. Which is why Brass or Hags is probably the most likely to move. They won't give up term on a good younger player, especially ones on good contracts for a rental they won't be able to resign next year.

I agree with that. Honestly wouldn’t hate a Brassard, Matta and a first for Pacioretty. Probably have to give Pittsburgh another piece but I wouldn’t mind that move.
