The money is pretty reasonable, but nhl rosters are 23 players and extra cap room for call ups. You probably need to find 3-4 million, plus any performance bonuses

The cap will likely rise, and in real life, people like Marleau are easily moveable

It looks bad on face value but the individuals are quite promising, and trades will possibly be made to aquire dmen, with people like Marleau or Brown possibly going the other way

I didn't catch the cap, that probably buys you 2-3 million. But no, vets chasing cups with no trade clauses aren't easily moved

Apparently not extended as they would have been UFAs prior to ‘19-20.

Leafs would be in even better shape if you didn't overpay Johansson so badly. 2.5mill? for what? he's played 9 games in the NHL (15 if you include playoffs). Don't care how decent he looked, he aint worth more than a mill.

A number of years ago, when “my” Hawks were contenders and spending up the ceiling, I foresaw them having lineups like this with many rookies and real young guys. Fortunately, they did win multiple Cups because this is exactly how it has played out. For your sake, I hope the TML do win next season because if your only desire is to keep your “Big 4”, the entire team will no doubt falter. It takes great asset and cap management to sustain a winning team in this hard cap era. An overpaid core few might win if they are lucky but also may fall short long term. The Chicago Blackhawks are a classic case because with just a little better management, they would still be contending and most likely adding to their 3 recent wins since ‘10. I don’t mean to always talk about the Hawks in comparison to present contenders; I think they are an example of how not to do things concerning sustainability.

Sorry this isn't anywhere close. Your three roster spots short, and with 800,000 in cap space. The cap might go 2.5, so it's 3.2m to spend on three players.
You've decreased the pay to Ozhiganov so he an walks as UFA. You really want career minor league Holl on the team just because he is cheap? Maybe just maybe you can squeeze all this under the cap in 2019/20 but if Grundstrom.Dermot and Liljegren are deserving of significant raises....some big contract will have to go.

I'd think he'd get 1.25M for 1/2 yrs, and he likely does well, so to buy out UFA years, they get him for 4 yrs at 2.5M, a cheap cap hit for a player who can play both special teams and has a good potential

I agree with most of your comment, personally I'd be happy with a single cup.

Regardless, players like Marleau, Brown, Zaitsev, etc, could be shipped off and replaced with younger players for cap space to give players like Liljegren, Dermott, Rielly, etc, with the raises they likely will be demanding, undoubetly, depth will be sacrificed, but with the right moves, and keeping the big 4, Toronto could defenitely contend for the cup for the next 7+ years

Yep, since I restricted myself to not make any trades/free agent signings, they had to go

Hainsey is likely not re-signed, unless it is at a significant pay cut, however, Gardiner could certainly be resigned, with the movement of certain players

Or JG could bring in a nice return if they did trade him.

Like ljs alluded, moving Marleau might not automatically be that easy to move if he has a full NMC all three years. He seems to be professional enough
to perhaps waive this clause in his last year, especially if the TML do indeed give him a ring this coming year!
