Lol. Why would Tampa trade Vasy at his age and with his talent for Price, who has a ridiculously overpriced contract? This is really out there.

I would like to note for the record that OP appears to be a Bruins fan. Keep that in mind when flinging insults at us silly Habs fans.

Best regards

It allows they to bring in Karlsson.

I know Price had a bad year, but why is everyone so quick to forget Price is the best goalie in the world. Not even close.

Price may have won that poll, but you can't believe that Price, aged 31, making 10.5M a season for 8 years, is worth more than Vasilevsky, aged 23, making 3.5M for two more years (and still and RFA after that). Keep in mind, Price seems to be injury prone, and had a bad year (especially by his standards), while Vasilevsky was a Vezina candidate. He is making 3x more money than him, do you honestly believe Price is 3x better than Vasilevsky?

With that being said, Price is a great goalie, and may be the hardest to score on, but there isn't a team in the NHL that would take Price over Vasilevsky right now.

As far as your trade proposal, I would say it's solid (though as I said TB wouldn't touch Price). It is definitely in MTL's favour, even after the cap dump of Callahan and Coburn (to an extent). If I was Bergevin and TB called me with this offer, I am bouncing off the walls, because this trade would not only save my job, but actually get the Canadien's on the right track again. Yzerman is way too smart a GM to do this trade, and I can't see him moving Point (he would make room to keep him when there is cap restrictions), and he certainly isn't moving Vasilevsky.

But giving up Point and getting a goalie that is 7 years older than Vasy and who has/will have a much higher cap hit than Vasy is crazy. You say this clears up space for Karlsson but I want to know how Tampa gets him with this scenario. Do they have to give up more assets just to get him after they've given up assets just for the purpose of making room for him?

Yeah, this originally started as a way to fix MTL. Yzerman and Price have a history with team Canada & The whole thing really hinges on Tampa also bringing in Karlsson, or you are right, it wouldn't make any sense without Karlsson

Point will get 6m+ next year and Vasilevsky 7m the following. It would essentially be Point, Palat and Vasilevsky for Karlsson and Price.

Big IF, but IF Price is healthy, It could make some sense. If you need to balance it out with picks, or prospects, so be it

assuming Palat and Sergachev (for Karlsson) Their top 6 forwards would be Stamkos, Kucherov, Johnson, Gourde Miller, Killlorn & their top 4 would be Hedman, Karlsson, McDonough, Stralman/koekkek/Foote

With Price in net.

I don't know Tampa's prospects that well, but Cirelli & Katchouk seem like they might push some guys out of top 6

You can argue that Cirelli isn't really a prospect anymore since he's made the roster.

Raddysh is generally considered our best prospect, along with Foote, and then Volkov.

Yeah, they would have to with and extension in place for Karlsson, it would have to be something like Palat and Sergachev. Maybe killorn & Sergachev/picks/prospects.

For the record, if getting Karlsson involved moving Sergachev, I would not do it.

Vasilevsky will get paid in two years. I am guessing 7m+, maybe more. not always true, but I haven't see a lot of Russians take team friendly deals. I am not worried too much about Price's age. Goalie tend to stay elite into their late 30's at which time 10m will be the Norm for good goalies. Biggest question/issue would be health more so than age, at least for me.

Fair enough. You guys always seem to have a nice long line of young talent ready to step in and put up 25-30 goals.

I'll say this, Price is the only guy at his age group that can go from zero to hero before you have to time to mention he's finished.

His contract right now, doesn't look good. His injury status lately hasn't looked too good. But one things for sure, there's a reason why the many of the players voted for him, even amidst his bad season. When he is on top of his game, he is still the best goalie in the world. He just hasn't been at the top of his game lately.

People forget how close he got Montreal to a Stanley cup birth on his back alone until players started realizing the best way to stop him was to hurt him. Anyhoo I digress, right now Price is very hard to trade. Regardless of what any person thinks good or bad of him.

To be honest, Vasilevsky @ 25 making 7M isn't a bad deal (if it even is that much with the state tax in TB), and he is likely to be better by the time he is ready for that extension. Even if Price is healthy TB is not taking him. It is too much $$ for too long of a term, and he isn't getting any better, Vasilevsky has already shown to be a top goalie in the league, and he could get even better.

Also, just a minor note about this lineup, Gourde plays better on the wing, so maybe have him on 3rd line LW, get Cirelli and put him on the 3rd line (played well for TB last season). Scherbak on the 3rd RW is good. Have Conacher play 4th line LW, Pacquette at 4th C is good, and then have Erne as 4th line RW (or possibly Raddysh if he is ready). Andreoff can be your depth at LW and C.

Bottom Six:

Gourde - Cirelli - Scherbak
Conacher - Pacquette - Erne/Raddysh
Andreoff as depth or AHL

I actually made a 2019-2020 TB Roster with Karlsson, (and enough room to sign Vasy to an extension the next year, plus depth players), while keeping Point and Gourde. This involves dumping Cally, Killorn and trading Johnson, but Gourde could move into a top 6 role with the production he had last year (provided he replicates it this year). My package for Karlsson was Sergachev, Raddysh (top lightning forward prospect), a 2020 2nd and 4th. If you have the time check it out.

For starters, congrats on creating this much discussion on a post this recent. Honestly I don't think either team would approve this deal but I can understand both sides considering it on some level. The bolts have more future upside so they don't necessarily have to be in a win now, but if they push for Karlsson then they very much are and picking up price might make sense to win the next two years, otherwise the cap issue and losing two young stars would stop them from allowing this to happen. Also, as a Habs fan, seeing Carey in the blue and white would make me vomit, but no one cares about that.
