Description
Panarin to Boston makes sense to me from a number of standpoints. First and foremost Panarin has said he want to play in a hockey market, where he can have a certain type of lifestyle. He would have that in Boston. Secondly Boston is closer to winning than a team like Columbus and also Panarin would be surrounded by more skilled players. The trade is reasonable given the return that a player like O'Rielly got, but could be tweaked to meet more of Columbus's immediate needs. I think ulitmaltey Columbus will have to take a step back after losing a player of Panarin's calibre, but the team still has a ton of potential. From Boston's stand point they have a deep enough prospect pool to give some asset to make the trade work. In terms of the cap Columbus retains some salary to make the deal work (this might mean giving them a better return which I may not have accounted for in my trade). If Boston decided to resign the player than they would have to move some pieces around, specifically Backes, Miller, and McQuaid. I don't follow Boston a ton, but its clear that they don't have a long window of being highly competitive. Once Marchand and Bergeron slow down this team will take a step back, Panarin maximizes this teams window for the next 3-4 years as a championship calibre team. Please comment on alternative trades that would accomplish the same premise of making this team more competitive. Also for the lines I tried to balance line 1-3 as much a possible to give the team a more balanced attack.
Trades
BOS
  1. Panarin, Artemi ($2,220,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Boston gets a star forward that immediately propels this team back into the conversation for top team in the Atlantic.
CBJ
  1. Heinen, Danton
  2. Senyshyn, Zach
  3. Wagner, Chris
  4. Zboril, Jakub
  5. 2019 1st round pick (BOS)
  6. 2021 4th round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
Columbus gets a nice haul of players for Panarin, beginning with Heinen who could put up 40 points regularly, they get a solid defensive prospect plus another prospects who played well in the CHL. They also receive a first pick plus an additional 4th. This haul is similar to the O`Rielly return, but O`Rielly had more term and a cheaper AAV

Bruins should cling to heinen. Move bjork instead. I don't think Columbus would do this, they would want an NHL player coming back to keep them competitive.

Bruins pass.

LW is not a problem area for Bruins. It is one of the teams deepest positions. Plus without an extension that is a huge price to pay. With an extension it may inhibit their ability to sign the players that come due the next 2 years. Not to mention any deal for Panarin likely starts with Debrusk and likely ends without him.

Why? why do people trade players that literally just signed this off-season?

Bruins fan here. As much as I would say yes to a deal like this, surprisingly this trade offer would more than likely be a No from columbus and here’s why.

Danton Heinen is considered the big piece here going back to Columbus. Danton Heinen has a tremendous season, surprising to most Bruins fans. However, he’s really not a guy that is known for his offensive flare. Heinen was really good mostly on the defensive end of the ice. He had a huge run where he was putting up points but then completely slowed down. You don’t really notice Heinen too much in the offensive zone, at least that could be just me. He’s just a solid player but I don’t know I just don’t see him being a top 6 winger on a competitive team. He’s just a great third liner.

Zboril had a decent first pro season, former 13 overall pick. I wanted to see more offense out of him in the AHL, but from what I’ve read he was very gritty and solid defensively throughout the year. That offense can come next season but he’s more than likely going to make an NHL roster in 2019-20 if that.

Senyshyn is expendable but I can’t tell you if other teams are really interested in him at this point. He was a reach at the time he was drafted and he had a very underwhelming first pro season. I think his value goes up if he’s showing signs in the AHL next season. (FWIW: He looked lost and no where near ready when he played in Boston pre season games)

Wagner won’t get dealt, he just signed

So my point is, if Columbus trades Panarin to Boston, it starts with Jake Debrusk. Jake Debrusk showed a ton of offensive flare and work ethic throughout the year ESPECIALLY in the playoffs where he dominated the Leafs. Debrusk can be a future 60 point scorer so I believe Columbus would want a player like that. And in my opinion, I’m keeping Debrusk.

Edit- so Columbus would want a player that keeps them competitive. They’re not going to upgrade trading Panarin no matter what. Debrusk is a player that’s younger and already gives them good scoring. Heinen is just inconsistent as of now and didn’t have spectacular offensive flare that Panarin or Debrusk brings.
However, Anders Bjork could be a guy that Columbus may look into. When he played in Boston, he showed a ton of offensive upside but suffered a very unfortunate injury. If Bjork cracks the Bruins lineup and has a strong start to the season, he may be the trade chip that Columbus wants. He has top 6 potential and is a very fancy player. I am pushing for Boston to showcase him and potentially be involved in a deal that lands Panarin. I can only dream though
