Still don't see this team being good enough defensively to win a cup.

Horrible deals for Toronto. They shouldn't do anything. If they do want to do something, its Nylander for Subban/Barrie/Faulk+Skinner etc

How do you see them adding Subbans contract? Faulk and Barrie would even be tight to fit in. Tanev at least gives them some room to add pieces and is still one of the best shutdown D-men in the league

I would wait and see how the defence of and out this year. We have a lot of young talent that’s going to working their way up over the next couple of years. And I don’t buy into the weak defence panic. It’s an average defence and a strong offence. First we need to get pir cap situated and rfas signed then go from there. Possibly win a cup in the mean time. Vegas seems to think so...

This makes the team worse. Matthews needs an elite winger to play with and that is going to be Nylander who both have amazing chemistry together. Dont know why you would want to break that up. Tanev is injury prone so based off that i would not expect him to be healthy for a full season. And Liljegren, an offensive dman may need another season with the Marlies before hes NHL ready. Tavares was brought in for a double barrel attack with Matthews. 2 elite centers playing with 2 elite wingers. They are not the Oilers or Sabres with Mcdavid/Eichel and no elite wingers to support them.

I agree with this. If anything I would trade 1st round picks/prospects for a rental that we can afford for this year and make an epic cup run. Keep guys like Sandin, Liljegren and Grundstrom and trade anyone else paired with our 1st that would be an upgrade over Carrick pushing him to the 3rd line or as the 7th defenseman. Vegas made it to the Stanley Cup with no true #1 defender. I think the key will be keeping Gardiner and letting him walk at the end of the year like they did with JVR and Bozak. As painful as that was to watch.
