Cap Crunch

Created by: TheTradeIs1For1
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 29, 2018
Published: Jul. 29, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The big 3 take discounts to try and win as many Stanley Cups as they can in their primes. Matthews will still only be 29 when his deal expires and Marner will be 30. So they can still sign another deal then.

After a breakout year the leafs can’t afford to keep Carrick. So they trade him for a 2nd round pick.

Nick Jensen is a very underrated player. Sign him to the “Johnson” deal only better value.

Nick Jensen is not worth that amount of money. I would give him 1.1 for 2-3yrs and he will take it..

No reason to expect any player, never mind three players to take discounts. Carrick isn't worth a second and Jensen can barely hold a job with the Wings, why is he a star with Leafs. You paid Borgman, aOzhiganova, Lindholm and Sparks less than what they make now. I can't see this working.

Mathews gets 11, Marner and Nylander make the same. Sparks makes much more, Borgstrom makes more, Carrick for a 2nd, to quote Lindy Ruff, It's a joke. They bring back Gardiner, they give more to Johnsson and Kapanen. The leafs are going to be in cap hell, you're asking way too many people to take discounts

I don't think they're bringing Gardiner back. And I don't buy the "cap hell" argument. Seahawk11 is off by at least $300k on Lindholm, Moore, Borgman, Ozhiganov and Sparks but he's still under an $80M cap (and I expect it to be a little more). I think you're going to be looking at something very similar to this team for a few years . . .

It's not Lindholm Moore Borgman Sparks and Ozhiganov that will cause cap hell. Matthews will want 11m Nylander won't take anything less then what Mitchel Marner gets. That's what puts them in cap hell, and they don't have the young talent to replace the guys they would have to let go. As for Gardiner, he scored 50 points, how can you not bring him back? He's their 2nd best D man!

Same reason the Leafs didn't bring their top goal JVR. Guys just price themselves off the team. Sure Gardiner gets points but might have peaked at age 28. Just more value in other players. There are only so much cap space. and it's a fact UFAs might be guys that leave. It's the same for all teams. Why won't Nylander take less than Marner? Marner at least last year was a better player. And these players are still RFAs, the Leafs still have some control over there contracts

If the Big 3 were ever linemates, would they be called the candy line, "MnM"?
