Deep enough for a Cup run

Description
I encourage all hate comments and reserve the right to laugh at each and every one of them.

Note: This team is deep and has all the pieces a team needs to win a cup. If this team isn't going in a playoff direction by Trade Deadline time there needs to be a significant trade and maybe a different coach. If the 70s line can't play the way they have in the past, I think trading for a top 6 winger could be a good idea.

As far as the defense, it is a solid line up and is good enough to go deep.

Not a hater here, they did after all win the cup twice so you have to give them the credit they deserve.

With that being said, this is an old team and one that isn't very fast. Do you think another year of wear and tear will make them better than last year? I sure don't and looking at the long term money that is on the books for dudes who are over 30 should be terrifying.

Why isn't Budaj the backup? And why are you giving Voynov 6 years? So you're team is even more screwded cap wise in 3-4 years?

I'm trying to be realistic. I think Voynov would get 4-4.5M+ and as far as Budaj I want him to be the backup goalie more than anything especially for a playoff run, but from everything I've heard it seems like he's expected to be the AHL backup.

If you can't even squeeze a 13th forward, you're doing something wrong. I'm on the camp of not bringing VV back because of what we did but I could understand the arguments that he should be given a second chance.
The one thing that really ticks me off is that trade with Minnesota though. I'd rather give them Brodzinski and Muzzin and get a good prospect and a pick back. Otherwise you're screwed cap-wise in two years.

The purpose of the Minnesota trade is to make room for Slava Voynov. Forbort is a mediocre defenseman who creates way too many turnovers in dangerous areas, that's all I saw from him last season. He costed Doughty the Norris imo. If Doughty was paired with a good established D man like Muzzin he would have done way better. Iafallo create opportunities for himself. The only reason he did as good as he did was because he was paired with Kopitar and Brown. Kings don't need those players. Iafallo is going to get 1M+ next year and we already need to resign Kempe (3.5M+). We have plenty of good promising young players coming up: Vilardi, JAD, Brodzinsky, Amadio, Clague, ect. If you look at every team that wins a cup, their all in cap trouble. It's the price you pay for success.

Every trade you make always has Forbort going to MN. They do not have the cap space to take these players. The Kings will want to KEEP Forbort because of his cap hit and how he plays with Doughty. He stays at home while Doughty is allowed to jump into the offense.

Its been many different teams. Montreal, Caroline, St Louis, and Minnesota. I don't care what team it is. I can gaurentee you Forbort would be traded before Muzzin and Martinez. I don't know what you mean by "how he plays with Doughty" because I watched every game last season like I always do and he was doing nothing but creating turn overs and making dumb plays. Yes he has upside, but if he plays the way he did last season he should be traded. He costed Doughty the Norris if you ask me. Look at Forborts player evaluation on the Kings Insider page. The bad outweighs the good. Kings always have been in Cap trouble it's nothing new so why is next season any different. You make it work. Every team that wins is in cap trouble. To win, you need the pieces that make a team successful and that's never cheap. I'm so tired of having this conversation with people who don't understand it.

The report is just one person's opinion, such as yours. Others have a different opinion, that is why they have this arm chair gm option. If you look into what Drew says about Forbort, he loves playing with him. He didn't cost Drew the Norris...the Norris isn't what it should be, it goes to the most offensive defenseman, not the best overall. Bringing back Voynov will only put this team into deeper cap hell. He is 28 going to be 29, almost the same ages as Muzzin and Martinez.

Voynov is 28, Muzzin is 29, and Martinez is 31.... And of course Doughty said that. He's not going to say he dislikes playing with someone publicly.. I'm sure he likes playing with Muzzin a lot more and rather play with him. Also what did you just say? "Goes to the most offensive defenseman" ? The trophy literally goes to the NHL's top defenseman who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position. Not Points... If it were points, Carlson would have one it. Kings have not fully recovered from the loss of Voynov. There's still a hole. Kings don't have the Blueline to go deep. With Voynov back, we'll have one of the strongest defense group. Everybody seems to be blinded to how good Voynov really is. Like I said before, Kings have always been in Cap trouble. We just have to move a couple minor pieces out to make it work. What's more important to you, not being tight against the cap or your teams success?

no one knows how good Voynov is. He hasn't played in the NHL for over 4 years. You can have an idea how he will be, same as with Kovi. He could be great, good or not fit in well at all. It's all a gamble. You don't have to be tight against the cap at the beginning of the year, give yourself some room to make additions as the season goes on. That is how most teams have done it in the past. With this team you have no room to add more than one player.
