Sam Reinhart

Created by: herzausstein
Team: 2018-19 Nashville Predators
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 9, 2018
Published: Aug. 9, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
With Ellis still not extended long term, Nashville makes a move to trade him. Nothing against Ellis, but due to our history with Suter Poile decides to not take the risk and trading Ellis into the season could create chemistry issues.

Buffalo needs a good RHD and Reinhart is supposedly fallen out of favor. Nashville would need a replacement D (of lesser value) as well. Enter Beaulieu. His number's from Buffalo don't look like they've improved at all since Montreal. So the trade basically breaks down as

Ellis - Reinhart
3rd - Beaulieu (same price Buffalo got him for)
Jarnkrok - Even remaining price discrepancies out and give Buffalo a C/RW in return.

For our defensive structure, Subban plays with Hamhuis. He was able to make the corpse of the career of Emelin look good. Surely with someone better to work with he'll be fine. Like last year one of Ekholm/Josi play offhand and team together. Newly acquired Beaulieu suits in on third pairing with Y. Weber or one of the guys from MIL if they beat him out for the job. This move will also make a roster spot for Fabbro if he can be convinced to join this year or next.

For forwards, if Reinhart can slot in at 3C i'd pair him with Hartman and Tolvanen. this would allow the other 3 lines to be what was rolled during the playoffs (assuming Watson is still around). If Reinhart can't slot in at 3C put him at 3RW with Bonino and Tolvanen. Gives a big bodied player to counter balance Tolvanen's lack of size. Sissons then slots in at 4C and Hartman at 4RW.

I think you're on the right path.

I wonder why you think the Preds have to give up an extra pick? The Sabres are getting the best player in the trade (Ellis) although Reinhart still has a lot of runway to reach his potential. Jarnkrok and Beaulieu are at best a wash and the argument could be made that Jarnkrok has more value with his ability to play multiple positions and situations.

Flip the pick around the other way and I could be on board.

I don’t hate the deal but: “Buffalo needs a good RHD and Reinhart is supposedly fallen out of favor. ” this is fake news. Reinhart is the Sabres top line RW and Eichel’s bestie. Sabres also probably will play Dahlin on the right so they have Risto Dahlin as their top 4 RD.

Really like to see Buffalos side on this trade. Having Ristolainen, Ellis and Bogosian on the right and Dahlin, Scandella and Hunwick on the left, it would be a VERY dominant defensive core. Ellis is the better player in this trade and I agree with boyd1212, a third should be going to Nashville. It can also be a condition draft pick, if Ellis re-signs with Buffalo then they get the pick. It'll would be interesting either way to see how Reinhart would grow with the Preds.

McCabe and Guhle would beat out Scandella and Hunwick

I can see them get lots of play time, but once they get rid of Scandella and Hunwick the I can see the younger guys get full time.

They aren’t that young. Both McCabe and Guhle beat out Scandella last year, let alone Hunwick who was a cap dump. If the Sabres planned on being garbage and burying their kids till vets contracts expired they wouldn’t have traded for Skinner. They’re going to field their best team

Ellis to Philly makes alot more sense, Philly is stocked with youth but lacks a right handed defenseman and has tons of cap space to retain him.

A good prospect, a mid level prospect and a 3rd rounder?

I put the Preds with the pick as a greaser. As you said Reinhart still has that runway to reach his potential. Teams rarely want to give that up. So I thought perhaps a pick would help grease the wheels.

Ellis would allow Dahlin to play on his natural side. Also considering that Bogo never gets in a full season it allows them to not put all the pressure on Risto. Put Dahlin on the 2nd or 3rd pairing left side across from Ellis/Bogo and watch the guy take off.

more cost controlled then Ellis yes. Not more cost controlled than Jarnkrok. That's why I included him.

I’d consider the right Dahlin’s natural side, as that is the side where he has played his professional games on. With Dahlin on the right Risto would already have less pressure anyway.

Reinhart would be interesting as a 3C to get him back to his natural position or as a 2RW pushing down Craig Smith. Either way he would have an opportunity to skate with some really skilled forwards (most likely Fiala, Turris, Tolvanen) plus having the Preds D behind him. There would be an opportunity to cement himself as a top 6 winger on a high end team, thats for sure.

Philly has some interesting talent, that's for sure, but you have to remember the Preds are in the middle of a Cup window for the next 3-ish years. Any Ellis trade can't result in a step backwards from a contention standpoint. Maybe Ellis for Simmonds (additional stuff on either side TBD)?

True. Simmonds and a good prospect like German Rubotsov or a capable 3rd pairing guy like Gudas for Ellis and Jarnkrot?

Simmonds and Rubtsov? I'm definitely listening.

Preds don't really have a need for Gudas.

Jarnkrot fills offensively gifted third line center need for Flyers, while Ellis would be the needed right hander to go with Sanheim on second pair. Third pair would be Hagg-MacDonald, with Frolin as 7th and Myers first callup. Gudas could be dealt.
Simmonds is valuable commodity, size, strength, grit, speed and 25-30 goals a year, Rubotsov is a good two-way prospect who just needs to push his offense up, but will fight in camp for 3rd line center spot.
