Only reason this gets one star is because u signed Nylander at right price, even if those were the values of the Toronto players it's an overpay by Toronto, imo ur evaluations are off and this is a ridiculous overpay by Toronto and I'm sure their fans will agree.

Not a chance in hell Leafs gut their roster like that for a rental basically, and if we keep him he will melt the future cap space. A lesser package can get you a guy like Trouba for half the cap

And just because Leaf fans do not want to do the trade does not mean they think the value is off or that their players are amazing. Its just common sense, this deal does not make sense with the other options out there. Honestly if Ottawa gets a return for Karlsson and even one of the pieces turns out to be as good as Nylander already is they should be happy. Teams do not just move their top ranked young forwards anymore, it rarely works out. Look at Forsberg for Washington how that went.

Adding Karlsson is good but you're still subtracting a high end forward in Nylander. Does it make the Leafs THAT much better for one year. I think you're downgrading the potential of Liljegren.

Don’t touch any Leaf player they are studs and the best in the league from the prospects that we haven’t seen play. To the amazing defenseman that control the defensive end to the forwards that are so far above the rest of the league. Trading or signing doors are closed with this team. Everything is from within. karlsson couldn’t ties this teams laces.

Ottawa has been trying to move EK for a while. His pending UFA status is likely the biggest hurdle for teams looking to trade for him, as he seems intent on being in charge of where he signs. Essentially that makes him a "rental only" piece, which has Ottawa in a pickle because the return becomes underwhelming for a generational talent and the face of the team.

It's questionable that he would even sign with Toronto, as rumors have him wanting out of Canada in general. And if this is meant as a rental....just no lol.

Then there's the price...Toronto has a very slippery slope ahead of them cap wise, you really want to sign another player to a giant contract for 7 years?

IF he were to sign...I think Nylander OR Liljegren and the 1st with maybe a 2nd/ 3rd tier prospect would make more sense.

If this were a sign and trade Id be okay with it. Otherwise it’s a dramatic overpay. No way Dubas guts their future rd1 and current rw1 for a 1 year rental. Yes, I believe you are underestimating Liljegren. But a guy who puts up stats just as good as Matthews for a rental? I wouldn’t be happy with that trade one for one.
