I don't see what you two are complaining about. It'd likely be Phaneuf-Petry to start the year and that's okay if the goal is a good draft pick.

I look at this trade as: good C prospect + old fart that'll shelter the new kids while they develop + a decent draft pick + improved odds at the lottery - for Max. I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Give me your opinion on that!
In a scenario that lets say LA and BOS make a deal like : BOS signs Pacioretty at Free Agency to terms LA would be happy whit, and then LA give BOS a 5th rounder for Patch. Is any of this illegal??
To save themselves to give a 1st rounder to Mtl

It might be legal under the NHL rules, but not necessarily under other ones. MTL could claim breach of contract and recoup millions of dollars, with which they couldn't technically buy a draft pick, but they could maybe pay Milan Lucic, for the right pick from Edmonton. Also, what if they both get outbid, or he just walks? Unless LA wins the Cup or something, there's no telling whether Pacioretty is going to even want to stick around in LA, so it'd be a pretty big risk. If they like him, they'll probably just sign him. If they aren't sure, maybe they wait and see if they can get a great price? If Boston signs him, Boston probably keeps him.

Edit: Also, I think the league has to approve trades, and might just kibosh such an obvious dodge.

I’m not sure if it’s illegal but it’d never happen. Other teams would attack Pacioretty and try to sign him, and if BOS was to sign him we’d keep him (cap space could be a problem). There’d just be too many ways for it to go wrong for the Kings. They wouldn’t do it.

Everything looks good except, why is Carter on 3RW? Is will be a solid 2C till he retires if healthy. Which it looks like he will be healthy next season. Kempe is capable of 2c as we all know put his production needs to go up to 50/60+ points (Like Carter). And even with that he has to wait for his time just like every other player.
