Before anything else happens, Weber has to get healthy. I don't think any team would take such a risk when there is more than just some uncertainty about his health. Next, as long as Bergevin is the GM of the Habs, no way is Weber going anywhere. Finally, whatever crazy deal you'd propose include the Leafs, it's likely the Habs would have to take back Zaitsev. As fanciful as you'd like to imagine this, Weber has a tough cap hit and term, and I don't see that being something the Leafs would touch unless the Habs took back significant money. No deal.

Here is my question to your statement. You are right that Montreal would have to take back salary to make that work, but what contracts? Weber's term is several more years, TO doesn't have anything that runs that long currently and when they do it'll be Nylander, Marner and Matthews. Who get's traded to make the salary work?

There is no deal here, nor will there ever be, Weber is a declining asset that his high priced and has a lot of term left. That makes it impossible for Toronto to make this deal without it being an absolute joke.

It isn't a TDL, it's a seven year deal for Weber. Leafs can't afford Gardiner next year, never mind 7.8m Weber. You're implying that the Leafs can't spend 7.8m every year from 2019/20 to 2026/27 better than Weber.

In a fantasy world where Shea Weber was 100% healthy, had less term left on his current deal and requested a trade, the Leafs would have enough incoming ELC defenders (potentially) to make a deal work without necessarily including any of the big 3. If anything, it would probably need to include Kadri, in addition to Zaitsev. That said, my reply specifically included, in its last 2 words, no deal, so we were never of different opinions here.

No chance the Leafs have salary room for the big 3 and any D that makes 6+ million annually long term.
