Duchene Trade

Created by: RinksideOps
Team: 2018-19 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 12, 2018
Published: Sep. 12, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Carolina has an excess of good defensemen and is weak at center. Duchene on the otherhand is getting squirmy about his future in Ottawa, so the management would be smart to deal him rather than risk him leaving for nothing in free agency. They also need defensemen, even if Karlsson decides to stay.

Duchene and Faulk both have inconsistency issues, but can be stars when they're hot. Ottawa is going to want some recollection of lost assets from the Colorado trade, and Zykov and the two conditional picks will help bolster their rebuild.

Let me know what you think of the trade?

My personal thought is that the Sens will hold on to Duchene, and Stone for that matter, for the entire season and then try to negotiate new deals with each other. I expect that both will walk as free agents. That approach is obviously more about pride than it is about the future success of the team. Logic dictates that both are gone as rentals at the deadline, but I just don't see that happening.

Take away the conditions and I think you hit the nail on the head. Ole!

I don't see the Sens being satisfied on any Duchene deal UNLESS a 1st rounder comes back to the Sens in a trade. If that pick they sent Colorado turns into Jack Hughes, the only thing that will keep Sens nation from imploding might be some re-couped assets for their stars. They could easily get 1st round picks for Stone and Karlsson, maybe Duchene. If they can get their hands on say, a Dylan Cozens, that could turn the franchise around quite a bit quicker.

I don't like giving up Zykov, He's going to be a top line winger and Duchene isn't worth that right now for Carolina. If it was a prospect like Foegele or Gauthier (Add picks for the value) but I'm not a fan cause a futures top 6 of Aho-Wallmark-Teravainen Zykov Necas Svechnikov is just intimidating

I agree that Faulk+Zykov+first is a better deal and closer to Duchene's actual value, even on the expiring market, but you never know what Dorian is going to (be instructed to) do.

I think you're hyping up Zykov a little bit much. He's already 23 and still isn't a point per game in the AHL. He did have a good stint with the Hurricanes last year, but that was only 10 games, and I wouldn't expect that to continue long term. The Senators are going to want a good prospect, and I think his age makes him more expendable than one of the younger guys like Necas, since he has less room to grow.

Necas is a blue chip. He isn’t goi g anywhere for anything. Zykov with Necas and Svechnikov is going to be the first line for a long time. It’s the Teräväinen argument, it damages Aho to trade Teuvo. In this cause its Svechnikov instead. I see him as a JvR, not quite good enough to be 1st line on a contender but a power play god. He’s not going to be amazing but saying with Necas and Svechnikov he’ll be anything less then a top liner doesn’t take into account his QoT. He was the AHL’s top goal scorer and just over a PPG. He is a secondary threat on that line, with Svechnikov being many teams main priority. Just my thinking.

We should all remember that Necas and Suzuki were drafted 12 - 13, and Suzuki wasn't deemed "a blue chip" who wasn't "going anywhere for anything."
