I like where this is going.

The only issue Carolina is going to get is, that they've got Aho, Duchene, Teravainen, Fleury and Ferland to resign - with "only" 16 mil. to do that.

Aho is aiming for +6-7 mil. and so is Duchene. That leaves 4-6 mil. for the rest.

Interesting idea!

I think that this is the right value for Duchene. I also think that Duchene is the right player for Carolina, although I've heard rumors about Duchene's locker room attitude.

Duchene will not stay in Ottawa, book it.

But what is Carolina's pitch? It doesn't seem particularly attractive in any dimension

I guess it comes down to money. Will Carolina offer the most, and will the new owner put money in to the team (in terms of salary cap, and all the off-ice player benefits, team scouting, team coaching)
Is Carolina still a budget team whose owner is just stringing it along until the right time to sell+move it? Because that's what Duchene wants to get away from in OTT

TVR is worthless as a D, and Ottawa is doing anything it can to shed salary (Zack Smith on waivers) -- so that is a no from Ottawa

But this isn't about Duchene's value, it's about bluffing and being the guy Dorion chooses to phone when the clock runs out

Great last sentence. Can you please explain the waiver thing to me? I've seen some names cross the waiver wire (particularly prospects only a year or two away) that I would have thought people would snap up. Are these revocable waivers?

Players are exempt from waivers based on how young, or how few games they've played. If a player has to clear waivers and is sent to the AHL, that means any team in the league can claim that player off waivers for free. The priority is ordered based on the standings, as Buffalo had the fewest points in the standings last year they would get first dibs. The one catch is that player has to stay on the NHL roster, for they would have to go on waivers to be sent down to the minors and could be snagged again.

You'll see icons for waiver-exempt on the cap friendly rosters

Thanks! I've noted the waiver-exempt icon which explains why Kostin, Bellows, Aube-Kubel, Hague, Dahlen, etc. get sent down without interference but I guess no one is interested in Bergman or McCarron. I suppose that the reason is that they would have to stay on the big-club roster.

They move Faulk, which look like is a done deal, then its do able, plus with Faulk you can bring back a decent forward prospect on an ELC. I would do Yamamato for Faulk.

Carolina will sell him playing the top line with Aho, and with my trade idea up top, they offer him the money to stay.

But.. What about Fleury, Teravainen, Ferland? Still a lot of bucks to manage properly.

If Duchene wants 7, that onlu uses up 1 of the 16 mil in cap we already have, because he's already earning 6 mil, Teravainen is gonna want the same as aho, so lets say 7 each, that uses up 13 mil of the cap which means we have 2 mil left, resign fleury and (assuming the cap goes up) should have enough to resign Ferland too
