Honka Finds a Home

Created by: Arom5477
Team: 2018-19 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 24, 2018
Published: Oct. 24, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is how I picture the trade:
1.) DAL gets Brassard as an upgrade at 2C (I truly believe Brassard not getting top 6 Center minutes is hurting him), which allows for Spezza to move to a more appropriate 3C position.
2.) DAL gets a dynamic Sprong to add to the RW.
3.) PIT gets a true 3C in Faksa with two years left.
4.) PIT gets Honka, who is importantly a RHD and has solid possession metrics.
5.) Ruwehdel is in the trade to balance financials as well as give DAL some D-depth.

As a Pens fan im Down with it. Something needs to be done with that brassard contract thats too expensive to resign and it doesnt hurt to use more defensuve prospects by next season

As a Dallas fan, the though of losing Faksa sounds terrible, but getting Brassard, Sprong and a first + some other assets...I'd probably take that.

The thought of losing daddy Faksa hurts my soul, but man that’s a hard deal to turn down

Dallas gets the best player AND the 1st? Also gets the player with the biggest upside?

Schultz isn't dead, he will be back. People need to stop grossly over rating the RHD need.

Remove the 1st and there is a chance... room to talk. As is it is a non starter.

You're undervaluing Faksa. He was 7th in selke voting last year... He's a great asset to pick up. He's on a super cheap deal for 2 more seasons and he's still an RFA after it's done. From someone who isn't a fan of either team, I'd say this is pretty fair value. I like Sprong, but just because he's the pens best prospect, doesn't mean he's an elite prospect.

I am actually not a fan of Sprong and would be fine with the Pens dunning him before his value plummets like Pouliot's did. Just agaist giving the players AND the 1st.

I don't understand how this deal works for the Pens. They're giving up the best player, the better prospect, and the highest pick, all because Honka is a right shot and Faksa has elite defensive metrics on top of barely being able to scrape 30 points a season? I get that he has term and one year of RFA after his current deal ends, and yes he'd be a decent addition to the Pens, but not in a trade they're blatantly losing.

Faksa can have all the Selke votes he wants, he's a defensive specialist that doesn't produce nearly enough to make sense at that price point. Once the Pens move Brassard back to being a full time center a lot of the issues up front will work themselves out. Honka is worth grabbing to experiment with, but his lack of any tangible success in the NHL and waning time as a "prospect" make it hard for him to be worth much of anything. The Pens are getting shorted pretty bad in this trade.
