Vigneault new GM

Created by: jpozz1996
Team: 2018-19 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 5, 2018
Published: Nov. 5, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This team needs a culture change and it starts with the owner (but good luck) so next has to be Dorion. Truth is he has done a crap job, and unfortunately Boucher takes the blame for that too.
Trades

Dear god... I mean, I like the St Louis and Boston trades as a fan, those are total steals - but that Minnesota trade is horrendous and the Vancouver trade... seems somewhat even actually but unlikely. I'd like to though know why we need Niederreiter when we have Tkachuk and Smith, and why we would feel the need to give up Formenton just to be rid of Ryan and acquire Tanev.

Tanev >> Ceci; Gagner still has potential as a 3rd liner for sure I do not know why Benning sent him down. And ya essentially Formenton cause of Ryan. However, I think with Tkachuk and the overload of young centres, Formenton can be worth getting rid off because I do not think he's ever going to be more than a 3rd line LW. Tanev is still young and likely would resign in OTT long term and provide stability on the right side...Anderson seems to be a better win now option than Allen who is S T R U G G L I N G in STL. If STL gets a stable goalie situation within the next 3 years (likely all that Anderson has left) then STL might be willing to pull trigger. In regards to the Boston trade, Acciari is no more than a Czarnik, and Donato could be a good 2/3 liner where as Dzingel is a bonafide 40 point guy on a week RW in BOS.

Canucks could have a $100million salary year after year if need be, taking on Ryan in able to get Formenton at the expense of Tanev, seems fair for VAN, if anything OTT says no cause they see too much value in Formenton.

I think Andy is struggling just as much, he looked good before the Tampa and Buffalo games, but he's the third oldest goalie in the league at 37. Allen's 27(?). He's rock solid when the defence doesn't defecate all over the ice, but I don't think he can keep doing 60 games a season for the next 3 years until he's 40. I think he'd be a fantastic backup to Allen if he can find his game and take on most of the workload. I also disagree with the Formenton trade because we don't exactly have a need for Gagner as a 3C (Duchene - Tierney - Pageau/Smith/White) and we could package Formenton with another asset and potentially pick up someone better than Tanev. (Seriously, Vancouver needs him more than we do.)

Thanks for the evaluation, btw. I know nothing of Donato and Acciari, I've only heard about them (probably from Boston fans) that they were future Top6 guys in the next couple of years. Dzingel would absolutely put up 40-50+ points with Krejci and DeBrusk.

I don't think that dorion is the problem. Look at the job he has done drafting and developing. He also pulled off a pretty good return for Karlsson and Brassard. Maybe too little for Hoffman but he was a locker room issue. Honestly, the Duchene trade was pretty good too considering that OTT though it would be a contender after getting Duchene.
The real problem is the coaching staff (ONLY NHL coaching staff because I am quite fond of the AHL staff). Not necessarily Boucher but everyone else around him. Jets fans thought Maurice was the problem for years until the coaching staff around him changed.

I'll disagree with you on Dorion because of just that: drafting, developing and, as well for my sake in the debate, free agent signings. Ya, he might be hand-strapped by ownership, but Paajarvi/Paul/Macormick/Pyatt doesn't really translate into good depth. This team lacks serious depth, and until he can add guys in the 23-27 year old range that can be moved up and down the lineup, I do not think his plan will work.

Fair on the Allen-Anderson trade point. Im still sticking to the VAN trade as a multi-reasoned trade, with fair value. And I do think Gagner provides a platoon player position in the lineup that could be beneficial to OTT adding depth for a year and a half, and not rushing their multitude of prospects. I added Formenton as the guy that VAN would want back (but really a deal could be made with any prospect), because in 2 years a 3rd line in VAN that features Formenton-Gaudette-Virtanen could be scary good.

after that video I'm sure you can add a few names to players who are sure to be out the door.

Honestly, look at the farm team. Balcers - Chlapik - Batherson will graduate. Brown will, Formenton will (I know he is not in AHL), Jaros will, Wolanin will, and possibly more. For the first time in a while, OTT will have to move guys out to make room for their young guys
