Funny how hockey analysis thought this contract was a steal when MTL signed him in Free agency

In this league, at present, there's no such thing as an immovable contract. With that said, I am not sure I see any team taking a bite on that contract. Perhaps Lucic for Alzner straight up? Sure is a heck of a lot of money to be paying a guy playing in the AHL. Who saw this coming? Absolutely everyone except Marc Bergevin.

No one saw this coming when he first signed. But yeah, the contract did not age well at all hahahaha

Also, I 100% agree. Look at TML and OTT. they were both able to trade Phaneuf who was told to be unmoveable

Disagree. A lot of people saw this coming. Maybe not waivers, but this player not fitting in and being too slow for the new NHL was basically posted on his forehead. I mean I reserved full criticism towards the deal to give Alzner a chance but i knew what should have been so easy to see, that he wasn't going to fit in here or anywhere really. At 1-2M he's ok. Anything above that shows how little a GM understands where this game is going. Its mind boggling really.

If anyone takes Alzner even for free, I'd be amazed.

Alzner is a d-man from another era, he would still be effective if the game was like it was 5 years ago but speed rules the day now. Bergevin should have recognized this 2 summers ago but at least he is (sort of) figuring it out now.

That's the best part of this to me. By sending him to Laval, Bergevin seems to be recognizing and admitting he's made a mistake. Add that to keeping Mete and Kulak up (neither need waivers) and it begins to look like he's learning what a modern NHL d-man looks like.

time to do the old Mike Richards contract termination.
Send him across the border with a bag of Pills. Contract breached.

unfortunately in Mike Richards case the story was real. Does not compare to Karl at all.

Yes absolutely. No one is perfect and I can say I saw this Alzner experiment failing the minute it happened but I too have been wrong many a time regarding players but if MB is showing that he is learning from his mistakes at least, its a great sign. Better late than never.

This season is about building for the future and this roster move and that admission are two important steps. Hope and pray we get a top pairing D man betweeen now and next Sept.
