Karlsson a stretch yes / kane I’m not sure. Seems like Chicago is heading in the wrong direction.

He might. I'm not saying that its likely but there are a few things Buffalo has going for it. One is that we are a young team that will be good for a long time. Two, we are an Eastern Conference team, and the Eastern Conference is where a guy like Karlsson will play his best. Three, and most compelling, he would play with the best young Swedish player in the league.

buffalo the hockey team has a ton of things going for them. A lot of players would want to play there.....the city of Buffalo however, that's a no go for someone who is going to make 11 million dollars a year.

The last time we made the playoffs: Ehrhoff and Leino. Okposo was a top UFA in 2016. OReilly signed in 2015. Moulson in 2014 after 3 30 goal seasons.

The Bills: several players every offseason

Kane isnt coming back to Buffalo. He isnt particularly liked here after the sexual assault case and the beating of the cab driver. I think he would rather avoid buffalo.

Also committing 21.5 million to kane and karlsson is ridiculous. Say goodbye to cap space for 5 years.

I think you missed my qualifiers.

First off, none of those guys were premier players. I didn't mention that but I should have.
Buffalo overpaid all of them like crazy. Weren't Ehrhoff and Leino bought out? Oreilly was an RFA. They traded for him, and then signed him as an RFA.....care to try again?

If you want Buffalo to give Karlsson way above market value....say 14 a year, they might get him.

Since Stamkos didnt go to UFA okposo was widely considered the best UFA forward on the market. You just dont remember because you saddled yourself with backes.

The others were considered top free agents. You must have amnesia.

and that okposo contract is almost as bad as backes.

whenever they sign a UFA, they overpay....because millionaires don't want to hang out in buffalo. I don't get why this offends you. I also don't get why you can't admit that fairly obvious fact to yourself.

You sound like someone who is completely misinformed. If people think buffalo is so horrible why do players from the Sabres constantly come back to live there? The City has completely transformed since Pegula bout the team from an infrastructure stand point and the cost of living is not even close to what it is in other major cities. It's beautiful in the summer and winters get overblown because there is a huge snow storm once every 7 years. It also has a water front and borders Niagara Falls (a decently large tourist destination).

I get why people used to rag on Buffalo 15 years ago, but honestly at this point its just a lazy take.

I love buffalo! People that make 11 million a year don’t want a nice blue collar city with high taxes. They want coast, or no state tax or big time cities. Sorry dude, I love buffalo, but millionaires don’t. Proof is in he fact that free agents just don’t sign there unless they get massively overpaid

That's a fair point. I guess it depends on the person. If your at the point in your life where you want to raise a family in a low cost of living environment Buffalo is great. a $450,000 house here would likely by in the 1-3 million dollar range in California, Texas or Florida. I'm not going to sit here and say people would pick Buffalo over living in Tampa paying no income tax and going to the beach everyday, but buffalo just has gotten a bad reputation and I'm not sure why, especially with all the city has improved upon in the last 5 years.

And as fair as free agents go, wherever a UFA signs is usually seen as an overpayment; that's not just a reflection of Buffalo.

Ya, but there’s seem to be of particular, “wait are they serious?” Nature. By all means, I think the 3-3.5 million dollar players are perfectly willing to go to buffalo. The 5-6 million? Maybe. It’s just not realistic to me that a big name ufa that has his pick of the whole damn league will go to Edmonton, or Winnipeg, or buffalo.

They’re not talking 450k houses, they’re talking 10 million dollar houses

I can tell you for a fact they are not talking 10 million dollar houses lol. I was just pointing out the an individuals dollar goes further in buffalo then it does in other cities. Certainly there are other places and cities players would rather go. I think your perception is slightly skewed, this is hockey where only a handful of players in the entire league make 8 figures (unlike basketball, football and baseball). These players have financial plans in place to live for the rest of there lives when there earnings stop. Most players are lucky if they play until there mid 30s. They still need to support there families for the rest of there lives and buying a 10 million dollar home does not make fiscal sense.

I also agree with your point of how a big name UFA would not consider Buffalo, but I think that also is a reflection of how poor the team has been over the last 5 years, not necessarily the city.
