No team is trading for Nylander unless he has a signed contract. Still too much for Canes go give up.

Let's hear it for realism. Even just for Pesce, the Canes would be putting themselves in a tricky situation, having just until midnight to sign Nylander.

I mean, it's possible the Leafs fill out an SPC for him and let him sign, but then let other teams trade for the rights to sign it?

It's also possible that, today, now that his cap hit is weighted as much to this season as possible, and as little to next season as possible, Toronto comes up on their offers a bit, and keeps him around for a few years. He's done pretty well in Toronto, and might be a good fit there. Not as good as Pesce and a 1st, but good, and that's not happening.

With Brett Pesce out with injury and on LTIR since November 11 with a knee injury, I highly doubt he's getting moved anywhere.

Other GM's would have been able to talk to Nylander's camp and know what it will cost to sign him. It's happened several times before where an RFA gets traded and there's an immediate extension signed with the new team.

What remains uncertain is what is Nylander's actual ask and is there any team willing to meet it? No chance any team trades for him without that extension ready to sign.

I still think we wake up tomorrow morning to news that he's re-upped with the leafs

Nylander has no trade value right now because he is an RFA. Either way i think Leafs should try and sign him to a reasonable deal and play him. Nylander is an incredibly skilled winger. Great edges, speed, hands, and skating and is only 22 yrs old with 80+ point potential. Keep him if possible to create even more matchup problems for other teams.
