I'm into it. Think you can take a bit of salary back? Maybe change the 3rd to a 2nd to make it happen?

Don't know if I'd be too horned up to do the Simmonds deal if there's no extension though.

Faulk isn't worth half of what you guys think he is. He's an average blue liner at best. He's worth someone like Brown and a 3rd. Kapanen straight up would be a trade TO would have no appetite for.

Well here's one TOR fan who clearly overvalues his players and undervalues others.

The disrespect for Justin Faulk is real.

doesn't happen without carolina taking back a significant contract. Leafs need the estimated 5+ mil of room this year for perf. bonuses so they don't carry over into next year. Also faulk having 2 years of control vs kapanen at 1 + 4 years of RFA control is a big factor.

You under value Faulk soooo much. This past month he as been the Canes best defenseman.

I just have trouble buying all the hype around the defence in Carolina. They are still a bubble team but are supposed to have the best d core in the league. IF that was the case they wouldn't be going on 10 years of no playoffs. This just reminds me of the Kessel era in TO. All hype and no results.

They've just begun to get in this position. Kessel wasted his time in TOR when they were in their worst. CAR has been bad, and now they're getting better...just like TOR has done in the past couple of years.

On the note, I gotta say, TOR became definitely better team when they got a star goalie in Andersen. CAR has not have that kind of luxury, yet. They have 3 second goalies, which definitely brings some sort of difference.

And they continue to be on the outside looking in. So I have trouble seeing them as anything other than decent players that can't help the team turn the corner. If Faulk is your best defenceman, you have some pretty big problems in Carolina.

The defense is great. There’s no secondary offense. A million shots a game don’t get it done for this team because they don’t have the skilled shooters outside of aho turbo and svechy. And with aho streaky the whole team isn’t producing

I love when people who clearly don’t watch the Canes can still formulate their own opinions of their players and stand by it lol

That is definitely hard to argue against, however, I will say, players that produce consistently build hype. Players that have hype but can't point to success, what are they?

It would help if they didn't take a million shots as soon as they entered the offensive zone. Shot selection needs to be coached better in Carolina. Their offensive zone structure when I have watched them is so chaotic and they just don't have the skill to make it work. They need to pick their moments far better than they currently do.

You know what would convince people like me that the Canes defence is legit? Success which they still are not showing they can produce that. You can say secondary scoring and goaltending is the problem all you want, but at the end of the day, they keep spinning their tires. At what point do you stop and think, perhaps what we think we are good at isn't working.

THIS.

I literally watch every last Canes game, and seeing people make these assumptions is just laughable.

Apparently everyone on the canes is worth half of their real value because they haven't made the playoffs in 10 years.

1967, all I gotta say.

I'm a leafs fan. I don't do this deal not cause I don't like Faulk, but rather I don't like the lack of term on his contract. This team's window opens now, but the goal is to sign Matthews Marner long term (YES WE CAN DO IT) and then have a 5 year or so window where pretty much every member of our core is locked up. Faulk can walk in like a year. Kapanen has team control for basically another 5. Also Kapanen's RFA status keeps his cap hit down, where Faulk walks as a UFA and will get paid, which the leafs can't afford to do
