Matthews trade is horrible for Leafs, Hamilton trade for Carolina and Hainsey for both. Also why Hemsky?

It is fair value on the trades. But they are fan favorites, so people get heated with these kinds of things

You must see the world in a nice deep shade of blue from your Leafs-colored glasses.

When all is said and done, Matthews may end up being the best American hockey player of all time (I say this as a Hawks fan). You should not be trading him.

Trading a pending UFA, Connor Brown, and some scraps for a Top pairing RHD probably wouldn't even work on "easy" mode in NHL19

i mean, the first one there just isn't really a way to gauge fair value. How many smaller pieces do you need to make it worth moving a top 5 player in the league who can't drink in the states yet.

The second trade, the value is way way way off in the leafs favor. They aren't getting dougie hamilton for that package.

How is it bad for the Leafs in the Matthews deal... OEL on a great contract, on a top D line with Reilly, a solid young D-Man in Chychrun, and young scoring potential in Fischer. On top of all that, a top pick in an upcoming draft

I would suggest you check Leafs who have the 5th best GAA, before saying the Leafs are struggling with their defensive game. Those trades sure wouldn't make Leafs "cap friendly" with OEL getting a disastrous 8.5m multi year contract next year plus the 10m for Hamilton and Chychrun. Actually the Leafs would be worse this year with those deals this year and in the future.

Haha. I'd say not nearly enough for matthews...and we're not giving enough to get Hamilton.

You don't trade a guy like Matthews to save cap space...you trade the complimentary players around him, if necessary

The comparison is indeed reasonable. No1 elite young centermen playing like veterans with skyhigh upsides.. Its pretty reasonable imo. Even Chiarelli isnt stupid enough to trade MCD
