3C for next year

Created by: LetsTalkNHL
Team: 2018-19 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 3, 2019
Published: Jan. 3, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Markus Granlund - VAN
Sam Bennett - CGY
Charlie Coyle - MIN
Radek Faksa - DAL
Jean-Gabriel Pageau - OTT
Philip Danault - MTL

I think all could do a good job. The last 3 are less realistic, since their respective teams will most probably wanna hang on. I can see the Penguins involving the likes of Oleksiak, Maatta or Simon. Which 3C should Pens go for.. and who should be moved?

I don't see Pageau getting moved. He's too versatile. He's our best PK guy, he's tenacious, and he's insanely reliable in big game situations.

Montreal can trade Danault, Ryan Poehling should be ready for next year. But he’s between a second line center & a third line center. He’s value’s good right now, I think he will be trade next year at the TDL.

I would like to see Faksa but that probably isn't gonna happen.

I don't know. I think this summer they will have some options for a 3C. If they do the smart thing and trade out Schultz for a 3C with term or gonna be a RFA, I think they can solve the problem for the next 3 years. Schultz has a lot of trade value. I think a team like Dallas or Ottawa would be more than willing to trade for him.

Not sure I would want to see schultz gone, he is a solid 2 RD or 1 RD if letang gets injured. Would rather move Maatta and a pick if needed.

Faksa would be my preference for 3c

He's gone one way or another. If you can acquire a piece for 3 years by trading him you do it. They hit cap hell next year. Schultz contract ends the same time as Murray's who will get paid and is more valuable. They can't afford both. Why lose him for nothing. That's not smart. Yes he would be great to have and help on a cup run next year. But he's not essential. They can make it work and improve other parts of the team.

True, Its why I am a fan of moving Brassard. He hasnt worked out great in Pit But still has value, especially as any team could add him at the TDL. With the cap rising and a lockout looming on the horizon I think there is a chance for pens to keep schultz, depends on what he wants though.

Fair enough. I see a lot of people saying that he isn't going anywhere.

He's playing super well right now. His value has got to be high. If MTL are willing to move him now, I would be surprised. I do think this waits until at least the summer.

I can see what you're saying, but the team has one RHD right now. I think they should keep Schultz for now, and look to move Maatta or Oleksiak instead.

I can see why you want Brassard moved, but I think the Pens keep him for a playoff push. If they do end up acquiring a 3C, they can move Brassard to LW and have a line of Brassard-Malkin-Hornqvist. That seems pretty scary to me.

I think Copp makes sense. I like him. I wouldn't take a chance at Girgensons for 3C. We need someone who can really fill the void IMO. McCann won't be moved by Florida and Bjugstad is too expensive financially. Gagner would be an interesting one, especially if Vancouver retains.

Girgensons wouldn't be a bad fit I think. more of a physical traditional 3rd C and probably would benefit form the talent upgrade around him. But Copp is one of my favorite choices to go with. He is young Cheap for a few years and has a good all around game with some size and snarl. Jets proably won't be able to keep him for Long and have Lowry Petan and Roslvic as young centers as well.

Of your original list Granlund is the most appealing because he would be cheapest and has untapped potential only problem would be how is he on the PK. Danault would be great but I don't see him getting moved unless its a deal really favoring MTL.

Granlund has the most minutes played as a forward on the PK for the Canucks. Vancouver is 20th in the league on the PK.
