Habs and Ducks at trade deadline

Created by: RoadRunner72
Team: 2019-20 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 16, 2019
Published: Jan. 16, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Anaheim has great defensive depth, but really needs to improve secondary scoring if they are going to make playoffs and use Getzlaf's last few years effectively.

Habs get a promising offensive left D prospect, just getting his feet wet at AHL and NHL level. Played with Cale Fleury in WHL Regina.

Romanov might be ready to contribute on left side D a couple of years from now, after his KHL contract is done.

  1. Eaves, Patrick
  2. Mahura, Josh
Additional Details:
Mahura is the main target as a puck moving left D. Eaves is included to help balance the cap hit, currently on LTIR.
ANA
  1. Shaw, Andrew ($500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Assuming Shaw is healthy and playing again by trade deadline, he can add depth and scoring to Ducks for next 3-4 years.
2.

Didn't realize how undervalued Shaw is - i'll add another piece to sweeten the pot for Anaheim. Juulsen and Mahura are currently about same level of development, Mahura has more offensive upside in NHL.

    1. Juulsen, Noah
    Additional Details:
Anaheim gets help now (Shaw) and help later (Juulsen)

Based on the Cogliano for Shore trade they made recently, does this make any sense for them? Shaw is better than other teams fans give credit for but even then not sure he'd get Mahura back. At best would be what Habs paid for him two 2nd rounders (with a cup dump like Eaves)

This is awful. You think getting rid of a cap dump with more term and a higher cap hit is worth Mahura?

For some Habs fans, Shaw was a cap dump, but now that he has had a semi good season, he has around the same value that Simmonds has. Which I don't agree with at all.

Shaw is not a cap dump. (see below) Mahura is still a decent prospect with more value. ANA have too much LD. Would be nice if they would share with others wink

Somewhere in between? A poor man Simmonds. Gritty guy who can play everywhere on your line up, PK and PP. Just without the same talent as Simmons and more fragile.

Added an NHL ready prospect to sweeten the pot for Anaheim and even out the value. Didn't realize the lack of respect for what Shaw can do when he's healthy.

Shaw is bad. He holds little value makes more than Eaves for more term. He’s a cap dump

No one wants Shaw. Quit pretending he has any value at almost $4Mx4 left on that deal.

Tried adding some more value for Anaheim. Juulsen versus Mahura is not quite even, because the offensive side of Mahura's game should be more highly valued. May be reasonable that 27 year old Shaw, even if overpaid for a 10-20 goals guy, makes up the difference.

If you have any 27 YO, C/AD, making 15 goals/ 30 points a year, signed long term, who drops gloves that you want to part away, we will take them. LOL

Just say you don't want him. Don't say he has no value plz

Is he overpaid? Maybe. If he had less injuries, I think he would have met expectations. Salary is based on 82 games expectation though.

Still not close to a salary dump. MTL can also retain up to 2M of salary if it was the only problem...

Now you've gone completely counter intuitive to the point... Why trade Juulsen and Shaw just to get Mahura back?

Shaw is not disrespected. Since you must have missed it:

He is simply not worth what some of us Habs fans think. Under perfect circumstances, he may be but there is a reason why us Habs fans keep trading him....

Shaw is making more than he's probably worth and he has multiple documented concussions so he could be a LTIR for his career at any point with one more. that is why he isn't as valuable as some think. Not because he sucks. He is a good player. Just not worth 4M a year and not with his current health risk.

You don't need to add more to this trade to make it work. You need take Shaw out and add different players that fit Anaheims needs. Shaw is not Anaheims need.

The guys career high is 39 points. He’s been a 10-15 goal scorer over the past handful of seasons. He’s been injury prone and he makes more than Eaves for an extra season. Eaves has been that same player if not better but has his injury issues. Neither guy has any value but then to think to add Mahura is bad.

Also retaining $2M over 4 seasons is a lot. That won’t happen.
