They could probably get Matthews for that term at 11, but they would regret it

No it would be dope to see Matthew's sign for like 20 mil a season four years from now

Other than the Calder Trophy how many more trophies will Matthews have by than? I say the over/under is 1, so....he is far from being considered Elite. Also most of the contracts I signed you'll have to add one season to, since this ACGM mode skips one season.

Leafs are gonna lose 1 of either Kapanen, Johnsson, Brown, or Hyman before Marleau retires..

Get real. Last I checked he leads the league in goals per game since entering the league. Take him to ufa in 5 years and he’ll be getting 16 easy

With the contracts I signed here, all the players will fit for the 2019-2020 season also, so you can't say for certain Johnsson, Brown, Hyman or Kappy is a sure bet to be gone. Also for Matthews I set it up so Nylander and Matthews contracts end at the same time, so bye bye Nylander to UFA and thank you Nylander for leaving to have enough money to re up Matthews for an extra 8 more seasons. So you can have Matthews signed for 8 years and he stays and plays 11 years in Toronto or try sign him 5 years and than re-up for 8 so you get him for 16 years?

Yes and Peter Bondra was one of the top goals per game players in his era, yet no one ever thought him as being elite nor winning any trophies.

No it certainly isn’t, I think it’s dumb and it was @Claesson4Norris that was saying it was 4 years from now. I believe the person making this agm thinks Matthews is going to be an rfa after his 5 yr term even though I corrected him earlier.

There is no way to sign Matthews to anything less than 7 years 4 years and he walks right into ufa 1-3 years hello arbitration and if your gonna sign him for 5-6 years you are just giving up 2-3 years of mathews for what? To save a million? Dumb....

Pretty sure Ovy has that covered at .5476 GPG vs. Matthews at .5371. That's is remarkable none the less.

That said, looking at only one stat doesn't paint the entire picture to determine an elite player or not...as we all know goals aren't the end all to be all. A guy that is in the top 20 in both goals and points over his career is generally speaking more impressive a guy in the top 10 in goals and way down in points.

Call it blind faith. Yes Matthews gets his UFA early at a 5 yr deal, risky yes, yet if the Leafs build a winner and keep Matthews happy and he gets all the fame and sponsorship from playing in the center of the universe, he'll just say **** UFA give me my fair market value and I'll stay an extra 8 years on a re up. I can guarantee if Matthews take a 7 or 8 years, he'll take the money and run as an UFA to America. Sign for 4-5 years and Matthews might not get tired of the media and fans drama yet.

Nah... I’ll sign him for 8 now. That is just fantasy land. Really his market value on an 8 year deal is 12m or less. Spend the extra million and trade brown.

In my first post I said the leafs could get that deal signed but would regret it.

Pretty sure I stand by that and I’ll be thrilled when he signs for 18 in 5 years time
