Those are awful for every team. Philly isn’t trading Simmonds for that, Vrana has way more value than Talbot, Devils aren’t taking Lucic’s awful contract, Bjugstad has more value than Talbot, and the Pens already have 2 goalies and trading Brassard leaves them with a bigger cap hit and a hole in their 3c

Schneider is worse than Lucic. There, I said it. With the same cap hit. Bjugstad is having a bad year and is being paid twice as much as he should be right now, the panthers can get someone worth 4 mil in the off season and get a lot more points than what he's producing right now. Simmonds is a UFA after this year, and is only a 30-40 point guy right now, whereas talbot will win them some games in a team that has much better d than the oilers. Vrana deal contains what is essentially worth a first round pick ontop of that, with a prospect who is likely similar to Vrana. Could even be an overpayment by the oilers.

Caps don't need Talbot, and we're certainly not giving up Vrana. He's on pace to score 25 goals this year without time on the first power play unit. Talbot doesn't have a ton of value, and EDM has no leverage.

Talbot's shown he can play well under decent D. His career average sv% is acceptable for the flyers

Caps don't need a prospect that can be similar to Vrana, when we already have Vrana. The Caps are looking to contend, not add a meh goalie in a down year and a prospect, while giving up a bona-fide top six scorer.

The whole point is you're getting a guy who will be better than copley for this year, in exchange for a guy who will have *less* of an impact on the game than talbot would. The caps also get back 2 nice pieces ontop of that to even out the deal.

Yes I do but the Flyers aren't going for a playoff spot. Why take a rental when we can get useful assets for him?

I should also note that the caps won't be able to afford vrana on his next deal, and the oilers would be retaining 50% of talbot's deal so that they could fit under the cap

fair enough, but maybe the flyers just want a good mentor to hart for the last half?

Copley has better stats than Talbot already, and Holtby is going to take most of the games anyways. Copley also looks better than his stats show. Dropping Vrana will likely result in the Caps not making the playoffs. We don't have another top six winger to slot into Vrana's spot. Caps aren't looking to gain prospects, they're trying to repeat.

I don’t see how the trade helps them out though. Once Elliot returns with his 2.59 GAA and .911SV% and having Carter Hart and his 2.66 GAA and .918SV% it just doesn’t seem necessary

That's not true at all. Burakovsky's deal opening up, plus the cap rising, gives plenty of room to sign him.

I honestly don't think Hart needs a mentor. The kid is mature well beyond his years. Plus Neuvy and Elliott are still there.
