Good effort on trying something different, but I am glad to see fans of the other trading teams rejecting these deals. Not a fan of the Getzlaf deal at all. He’s a Duck until he retires. He’s going to do a Joe Thornton and continue playing at a top 6 level until the end. RC is just crushing everyone’s confidence and killing his offence. Getzlaf is still legit.
Silfverberg deal is fine. A little complicated. Silf for a 1st, maybe a small + depending on the market. But I would be fine with just the 1st.
The Manson move is awful and leaves us weak on the RS. It just seems like a deal looking for a quick fix. I don’t think looking for a quick fix will work. We’re now in a 2-3 year transition period as we wait for the younger guys to come through. By the time that happens, Eaves, Perry and Getlafs contracts will have ended or be near the end. Kesler is the only real problem, but I think he’s probably going to retire before his contract ends. That hip is clearly an issue and there is no point in becoming a cripple at 35 because you want to complete a contract you’ll be paid if you hit LTIR anyway. In summary, no need to rush and pay a hefty price to dump those contracts.
