Huberdeau to the Oilers

Description

The Oilers really need to add a top 6 winger and Huberdeau would be a great fit and he's got a great contract. If there's any truth to the rumors about Florida going after Panarin maybe they'd be willing to part with a top 6 winger to improve their backend cause after Ekblad, Matheson and an aging Yandle there isn't much and Nurse would really improve their defense core. From an Oilers standpoint they desperately need another top 6 winger and they're pretty loaded on LHD with Klefbom, Sekera returning
and Russell not going anywhere plus Caleb Jones looked good during his callup so perhaps Nurse could be sacrificed for desperately needed forward help.
Would the Oilers need to add to get Huberdeau or does this seem fair? It's a top 4 D for a top 6 LW so seems fair enough to me.

EDM needs to give up value to get value back. Nurse doesn't bring back Huberdeau

I would more try Nurse plus top-6 fwd for Huberdeau to even start a conversation.. Huberdeau is top line forward with defensive and offensive capabilities on GREAT deal.. Nurse, 1st and Benson/Puljujärvi for Huberdeau might move some needles.

Huberdeau is top line guy.. he is worth it. He is also incredibly great defensively. One of the best defensively reliable forwards in the league.

Sure but Nurse plus a top 6 forward from Edmonton means RNH which is just way too much for Huberdeau. If I'm the Oilers I'd do Nurse and Pulujarvi or Yamamoto plus this year's 2nd round pick but I wouldn't send this year's 1st.

It's already being mentioned here in Florida, That Hoffman will be the one moved over Huberdeau. Tallon has pretty much said that Hubby isn't being moved.

Exactly especially if Florida is trying to bring both Bobrovsky and Panarin on. It makes far more sense to deal Hoffman then Huberdeau if Tallon wants to bring the Breadman to Florida.

Edmonton is going to be very hard pressed to find top-6 forwards that the Oilers can afford to acquire and hang onto. The imbalance of the roster makes it almost impossible to move key pieces, because that would simply create new gaps in order to address current gaps.

Nurse is one of Edmonton’s top three defensmen. Russell cannot replace him, and it is highly unlikely Sekera will be able to either. Jones looked good earlier this season, but he probably won’t be able to play top-4 on a consistent basis next year.

Players like Huberdeau are completely out of reach. Unless the Oilers stumble upon a very foolish opposing GM, their likely looking for less established players, reclamation projects, trades with teams who are equally desperate, or thinking of more gambling on players who have underperformed and are in shorter-term contracts.
