You think Marleau waives his NTC/NMC for Ottawa?

Gotta think a trade-buyout-sign deal with Callahan might be part of it too. Callahan and Volkov/Yan/Somppi to Ottawa for future considerations, Ottawa buys out Callahan, and Tampa resigns him for 700k-1M.

    If it’s a Steve Mason
type deal with a buyout in place.

Backes still has a M-NTC next year and can choose 8 teams he'll accept a deal to...I'd imagine that OTT would not be on that list.

Detroit won't send 2nd and 4th round picks to get rid of cap hits that they get LTIR relief from.

I don't think Vancouver is going to spend draft picks this year.

Sens don't necessarily want to pay actual money and the buyout calculator still shows $3,133,333 over 2 years is paid in real dollars. Although I would do this for Volkov but not the other 2 prospects.

Ottawa would definitely need to sell him on the role he would have here... but yeah his days of chasing a Stanley Cup would be over...

I won't pretend to know the inner workings of LTIR but I assumed that it still restricts you somewhat with the acruable cap space limit.

We just got rid of Gudbransen. For that salary, you should be giving up a draft pick.

Funny how you're trying to get to the salary cap floor, but you want Vancouver to pay for Ceci.

    No thanks.

Welcome to the Sens philosophy... reach the salary cap floor without paying actual salary. Ceci's gotta go :/

Well Spooner's cap hit is $3.1M and his salary is $3.1M so not a prime candidate for the Sens. Although he is a hometown boy so we might be able to work something out with draft picks and you can remove Ceci from the equation since you don't seem to want to sign him anyways.

Ottawa adding picks? Vancouver wouldn't do that. You're already saving $1.3M.

Then don’t buy him out. Zetterberg, Franzen, Hossa, Eriksson, Lucic, Kovalchuk, and Clarkson are all solid candidates for Ottawa. The issue with most players with heavy signing bonuses in their contracts is that they are normally accompanied by NTC and NMC clauses.
