Scary thing for the Leafs is that is if Marner signed for 9.6 he'd be doing the team a favor. Kid could easily top matthews contract if he hits the market as an RFA.

Having too many good players isn’t scary.... lol

I think 9.6m is reasonable... funny how I never hear anyone commenting on every Avs agm that has Rantanen at 8m but marner is getting 11m. I’m not saying it’s impossible but I don’t think that is dubas’ plan.

9.6 is well in the realm of possibilities. But i just think he could easily as for much more and not be asking for more than hes worth. I also think anyone who says rantanen for 8 mil is crazy.

Name a team that has the cap space and the four 1st rounders that is also dumb enough to overpay him and is good enough that he'd actually sign it prepared to leave his childhood dream team.

I've been saying this since the start of the season, Johsson and Kapanen are closer in talent than the majority believe. Almost everybody quotes Kapanen being worth 1+ million more than Johnsson. If you look at their North American stats, Johnsson actually has a slight edge.

Johnsson =
NHL - Games - 65 Goals - 21 Assists - 18 Points = 39
AHL - Games - 129 Goal - 46 Assists - 55 Points = 101
Playoffs
NHL Games - 6 Goals - 1 Assists - 1 Points = 2
AHL Game - 29 Goals - 16 Assists - 14 Points = 30

Kapanen =
NHL - Game - 118 Goals - 27 Assists - 24 Points = 51
AHL - Game - 119 Goals - 40 Assists - 54 Points = 94
Playoffs
NHL Games - 13 Goals - 3 Assists - 0 Points = 3
AHL Games - 30 Goals - 8 Assists - 13 Points = 21

Do the math and Johnsson has a higher PPG average in both Leagues and better Goals per game.

p.s. Johnsson also was the AHL Calder Cup MVP.

Somehow Nylander's contract looks better and better every day. I'd be stunned if Marner's starts with a 9.

And is looking better than Kapanen with each game. 9 goals and 14 points in his last 11 games.

i dont necessarily think it would be dumb, Columbus just gave up possibly 2 firsts for duchene. 4 firsts is a bit much for most teams but i think there are teams who would do it. i think to have someone like marner for years would be worth it.

I wonder if there was talk of offer sheets with Pastrnak? He scores more, has put up more points over the last 3 seasons and comes in at a very team friendly 6.666M. Most GM'S seem to understand that wingers are a lot easier to find and if they really want to overpay, Panarin will be available and they can save themselves the future of the team.

Lord I hope it’s Ottawa lol. Marner loves being a Leaf I can’t see him signing an offersheet that would force the leafs to move him. But hey... four 1st rounders isn’t bad.

Johnsson is also 2 years older than Kapanen. Not really apples to apples comparison here. It make more sense to compare their draft +1, +2, +3 years to each other.

You can only compare their North American stats because Johnsson played in the Sweden League and Kapanen in the Finnish League, which again isn't apples to apples. But yes you're right about the age, though remember Kapanen had a jump start getting used to the North American game.

I guess technically you believe Crosby got screwed from winning the Calder Trophy because Ovie is one 1 year older and had 1 year more pro. Also Matthews played 1 pro season overseas so you can't compare him apples to apples to Marner.
