RW for D help-Canes trade

Created by: MisstheWhalers
Team: 2019-20 Vegas Golden Knights
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 13, 2019
Published: Mar. 19, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Has anyone done this deal before?
I think this makes sense for both teams, Vegas needs to improve their backend and Carolina needs a forward who can score. The salary, term and age of both players is very close so don't think either team would have to add. Could see Eakin being a good fit for Buffalo, they could use some depth at center to give Middlestadt some time to develop.

Both deals make sense (although they deprive Las Vegas of depth that guards against injury) and are fair value. Carolina Uber-fans, however, will tell you that Las Vegas has to add a first because Brett Pesce is the greatest defenseman never to have won the Norris Trophy.

I hope Carpenter gets more, and where is Tomas Nosek?

Yeah I thought about the injury/depth factor that keeping Tuch is a safeguard against but personally I think the Knights D core is really lacking so if I was McPhee I'd be looking at a trade like this or something similar.
I didn't get too in depth with signing everyone, just forgot about Nosek and they have so little cap space I didn't give Carpenter much, he might get a bit more but the league is really squeezing out the middle class so a guy like Carpenter might be forced to take what he's given.

Fair trade IMO, OP, and it makes sense for both teams.

I don't get the infatuation with Pesce from the Canes fans. Sure, he's a solid blue liner, but to me he's a lot like Jonas Brodin: good shut-down 2nd pairing guy that doesn't provide a lot of offense. Guys like that certainly have value but some of the trades I've seen on here have been ridiculous (flash back to the Nylander drama where Canes fans insisted Pesce was worth Nylander next thing you know you'll see Pesce for Marner trades shakes head). He'll net you a good young complementary 2nd line forward just like Alex Tuch or Kasperi Kapanen 1 for 1.

If there is one person I would like to see traded this summer, it's Brett Pesce, just so all of us could at least have some real-world input on what he is worth.

As a Canes fan I don't make the Pesce trade because we know there's much more we could get from his with teams that are much more desperate for his services (Toronto) but as a basis it works. Eakin to Buffalo I don't get, with Rodrigues, Mittelstadt and some Jack Eichel kid, do they really need another C?

How much better or more do you think you'll get for Pesce?
As for the suggested Eakin trade, yeah obviously Eichel is the 1C there but after that it's pretty thin and I'm not sure if Rodrigues is even playing center, having a veteran center would help give Middlestadt some time to develop. Have you looked at Middlestadt's point totals? They're not great, neither are Rodrigues for that matter so having a guy like Eakin around wouldn't hurt.

Does that really make sense for a rebuilding team like the Rangers though?

Well as a Ranger fan I'd do it. Team Is likely gonna start buying some pieces this summer starting with Panarin. Fast is a UFA and Pionk is replaceable. Guess really depends if NYR brass wants to drag out this rebuild or not. All indications are that they do not want to do that. Theyll be busy this summer

Put it this way, there's been cases for Pesce- Nylander straight up. You can get more then that for Pesce easily, he's an elite shutdown D man on a robbery of a contract.
Eakin wouldn't hurt, but Buffalo are a still developing team, why take valuable ice time from these guys? Points also aren't everything. Mittelstadt hasn't been what he was expected to be in any regard, and Rodrigues has been solid in everything but production

A whole damn lot. Even more if they decide to move guys like Namestnikov, Strome, Fast etc

I don't know, I think the Canes would need to add for Nylander, Pesce straight across seems like a loss for Toronto unless they're desperate to shed salary but then that's a different discussion.

Eakin would just add support and depth at an important position, maybe Middlestadt or Rodrigues would be better developed on the 3rd line rather then the 2nd line. I don't think it'd take too many minutes from either and really maybe Middlestadt needs some development time with their AHL team, putting kids in high pressure roles with big expectations is a terrible development plan. The Sabres need to get better, not saying Eakin is some star that's gonna solve all their problems but he's a solid player that'd help them improve and he'd come at a reasonable cost to acquire, Buffalo can easily afford his salary too.

Pesce is an elite shutdown defencemen on a contract that the GM was arrest for signing because it was robbery. Nylander is making 10 mil this year and isn’t exactly on the best of form right now.

I get what you mean. I understand the logic I’m just not sure Eakin is the guy they’d look at. I personally think they’d target a winger, someone who’s been to the final, who’s got the miles clocked up, someone like Justin williams, and maybe they get them developing beside a veteran who can keep them calm. It’s what they’re trying with mittlestadt and pomminville and it’s sort of working. Mittelstadt is getting better.
