I could be completely off...but is this close?

Heard that Trouba's gf is finishing med school down in Florida somewhere...so this could be a fit with an extension in place.

Took back a decent player in Gourde, mainly so Tampa can afford Trouba's contract.

Money wise the Panthers would probably be a better fit with Point needing to be resigned this summer. But they don't have anyone like Sergachev to send back so the value might not be there for the Jets

Tsmps needs cap space, as do the Jets so it may not be a fit. Is Trouba justified to be 8th highest Dmen in the league?

Trouba wants close to $8 million per, Tampa is the very last team that can afford him. And his gf is finishing up schooling here in Florida and there's talk that she might be going back home to Michigan for more schooling hence the Detroit rumors.
