No. Any post that includes moving Backes is unrealistic. No one wants to have a 4th line center with the cap hit of $6M.

No the ducks are in cap hell right now adding Backes contract would be the worst thing the Ducks could do.

Boston is either going to buy him out or have to retain money if they can trade him.

I don’t know. Try doing it for 2019-2020 so you can deal with the contracts and see if it fits

Still his cap has an effect on how any team gets built. $6M is a big sum for a 4th liner.

You're giving LA two Jakobs and then maybe the player they draft with that pick will be named Jakob...….wouldn't that be weird? lol

That's why you find a middle man like a ARZ or another floor team. They "acquire Backes" on paper, but then flip him to his final destination, They eat 50% of the hit (again the money is so low its worth it) and then they get an asset from Boston and the team Backes goes to.

ARI is not really a cap floor team. Plus why would Backes agree to leave the 2nd best team from the East?

ARZ was just an example, there are teams that are floor teams looking for dead cap.

Why would Backes leave? Well it depends on where he lands. Would he waive to return to St. Louis? Maybe. Would he want to play in his hometown of Minnesota? Maybe. At around a $3 million cap hit and only owed $2 million over the last two years...a team would be interested in Backes even as a 4th liner. TBH I think Backes would do a lot better away from Boston.

None of that is true. The Cap is almost irrelevant to some teams. Without riding themselves of their own bad contracts 9 teams could afford Backes. In fact some teams want or have to take on salary. He is also not a 4th line center. Doesn't play center too much. Might be that Boston has some depth there in young guys they wanted to a try to. He is also not as useless as he is made out to be. He is not worth anything close to his 6m, but he gets very limited TOI and not with a ton of skill. He is still a decent PP guy and his numbers would increase if he were to get some more playing time. Not a ton. He is a max 25-30pt guy at this point. His leadership could be really good for a young team. Boston 100% will not buy him out. It makes no sense & saves them very little due to his bonus/real money. He will be traded. There will be some interest and the Bruins will have to give up something (pick or prospect ) and they may even need to retain salary, but it won't be a ton.

He wants to play. Most guys don't want to be where they are not wanted.

It's not like he'd get necessarily more ice time anywhere else. Better teams rather use better players and worse teams rather use younger players...

Yes, but teams with younger players often need to (as @ON3M4N said) get to the floor. A team could trade for him and get an asset from the Bruins and have leadership/Vet. If they don't want that they could retain salary and deal for another asset.

Example I think was already given: AZ (you pick the team with space) gets a 3rd and Backes for a 6th. They have no real $ concerns, so they deal him to a playoff team and retain salary and get a 4-6th rd pick back. Everybody is happy.

Boston gets cap space.
Team B gets to floor and assets.
Team C gets vet for cheap.

Another reason Backes would agree to waive - After next year his NTC is to 15 teams. I guarantee there are not 15 teams he wants to play for. Work with us now and you have a say in your destination. If not, you sit next year and we deal you to team #15 on your list.

Also Backes really seems like an integrity guy - As in he isn't going to hold back a team just to spite them.
