Hawks should take Byram

Created by: ChiHawk
Team: 2019-20 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 16, 2019
Published: Apr. 16, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hawks take LHD Byram at #3 and C Turcotte at #9. In the 2nd round, Hawks take local LHD kid Vlasic who is a beast and a perfect 3rd liner.

Here's why Hawks go defense again. In 2 years after moving Murphy the year after next season, the defense looks like this...
Byram - Boqvist
Gus - Jokiharju
Vlasic - Mitchell
Seabs

That is solid defensive core and locked up for a long time.

Cap space is there after next season as the Hawks move Murphy as Boqvist slots in and re-sign Crow for $3.5M or $3.75M for 2 more years as they continue the transition to Delia. Hawks will move Murray or Gus as Byram slots in. All in all, Hawks get back prospects and picks for Murphy and one of Gus or Murray after next season and replace with Boqvist and Byram the following year. This provides plenty of cap for re-signing the guys up front.

So what you’re saying is bury Mitchell on the third pair and attach a guy who literally cannot skate onto him? Smart move.

Hawks should take cozens... already a log jam on D.

Columbus declines that trade so fast. Jenner is more valuable to us if Duchene doesn’t(and I hope he doesn’t) resign. Jenner would then be our second line center. Murray was also our best LHD when he was healthy... he just needs to be healthy.... Saad has been meh in Chicago the second time and Forsling is a 6th/7th maybe even AHL d in Columbus.... sorry but I think we’d pass.

Who can't skate on the 3rd pairing? Vlasic?

Mitchell is going to be on the 3rd pairing with Boqvist and Jokiharju both on the right. Mitchell is a very good prospect and maybe a 2nd pairing but Boqvist and Jokiharju are clearly ahead of him.

Saad put up 23 goals and 24 assists and that's not his primary duty to score points as a 2 way forward. That's better then meh.

Forsling is 22 years old and has all the tools to be a solid NHL defensive player. I think he needs a place where there isn't a logjam of prospects and defenders.

I don't disagree but if they move Beaudin, it's a clear upgrade to grab Byram. Hawks have too many offensive D guys and need a larger bodied true defensive prospect in the traditional sense. Mitchell, Boqvist, Beaudin, Forlsing all are smallerish quick skating offensive D guys.

I might be wrong but I thought Joki could play left? And yes, Vlasic is a really bad skater.

I’ll admit Saad did better then I thought but we still need Jenner who’s a center then Saad who’s a wing.

There’s more of a log jam of D in Columbus.... he already comes in behind; Werenski, Nutivaara, Kukan, Harrington, and that’s just on the left side.... there’s also that Russian kid we just signed who’s name I can’t spell..

I haven't heard he's really a bad skater. He's a huge guy so he's not going to be a steller skater but paired up with Mitchell a stay at home guy doesn't need to be a great skater.

I didn't realize you guys had a log jam on the left. Hasn't Columbus been playing Jenner on the wing? I agree, a lot depends on Duchene re-signing or not. Panarin is gone that's for sure and lots of teams will make a play for Dzingel. Saad would be a good asset as such.

Yeah, it's a perfect compliment to one another. Could end up being the best first line pairing in the NHL in a few years; not only a shut down line but a high scoring one too.

Yeah. I also forgot about Carlsson even though he’s not where he should be in his development. Jenner played center up until the playoffs where he and Foligno switched. He had been with Texier and Bjorkstrand. I think Dzingle would be the only one to come back with picking Ohio State for college and having ties to Columbus already but even then I could seen him else where too.... honestly there’s too many questions in Columbus for anyone to know what’s going on.

Yeah, while I love the big TDL splash there are huge changes coming in the offseason. Big name free agents like Duchene, Dzingel, Bob, and Panarin all will have options to play in a lot of places and with money being equal are more then likely to head to a big market team in front of sellout crowds every night. Dzingel is a Chicago kid and played AAA in Chicago so would say he Chicago has a better chance of signing him then Columbus if the money is equal.

I'm against taking Byram but I wouldnt mind it if he had another top 10 pick. That said, Turcotte is gone by 9, and I dont really like either of the mtl or ana trades. If you acquire 15 from mtl why not just take broberg at 15 and an elite forward at 3 and keep Krys and Kahun.

The defense is messy too. Losing Keith but adding murray is a wash at best for next season and the year after we cannot start FOUR rookies on D including the 2 on the top pair if we wanna compete for a cup while we have kane and toews

All great points. Not so sure Turcotte is gone at 9. Hughes, Kappo, Byram, Podkozlin, Cozens, Dach, Turcotte, Krebs, Zegras and Boldy is the consensus top 10. Anything can happen after the first 2. I doubt Turcotte goes before Dach and Cozens and Zegras's stock is rising fast. I see Turcotte, Krebs, Zegras and Boldy being a toss up.

Do we need another VICTOR SVEDBERG ??? i dont know the player so i wont comment but i will take the word of the two posters that mentioned it . Your are also really selling cheap on beaudin and perlini . perlini scored 17 goals last year and i think 15 this year , one is 19 years old and had a great year in the Q . perlini is 21 with allot of upside . I think hoffman is not enough for keith . and i agree with poster that said draft cozens . your also taking forgranted hillmen , gilbert and probably the best of these three lucas carlsson . hawks should not waste a pick on another dman they need a top six LW or RW < left more so .> drafting cozens and playing him at wing on top two lines or as 3rd line center , for a year or two to develop > gives you a potential star top 6 forward

Where does Keith play in Florida - Matheson and Yandle are the top 2 LHD there. Can't see sitting one of those two for DK, and can't see acquiring DK to have him play 3rd pair minutes. To make that work, maybe you need to get Matheson in return and put the necessary pieces around it.

Yandle can play on the right with Keith as the 2nd pairing. Bottom line, don't be surprised if Coach Q goes after Kieth or Seabs.
