Stupid trade. Hortons cap doesnt need to move.. Kapanen would require more than fringe NHLer and 3rd.

Horton as ZERO affect on the cap. He's on LTIR. So you not doing the Leafs any favour cap wise by taking his contract. By your signing of Kapanen he is a 4.5m player. So the Leafs can get a better return, even if the trade was non NHL picks/prospects.

Oops. My bad guys. Thought the 5.3M$ of Norton was effective on the Cap. Than this trade makes no sense in this situation. I could propose the samething with Marleau's contract, but I think MTL would need to offer more for this to happen.
Anyway, good luck with your puzzle.

A RETIRED Marleau virtually solves all the Leafs cap problem next year....His non money cap would have to be traded. If he doesn't retire, then it's about 7m piece(s) that have to be traded with no money being returned.

It is effective on the cap.

But they can place him on ltir to exceed the cap by his cap hit if necessary.
