You gave Kappy 3mil more than he deserves. But thanks from Leafs.

Needs must and all that. You're probably right, right now but the Flyers could use some more speed and skill down the right. A 40+ point guy just out of his first full NHL season is good for us. The first should be a later 1st round pick and if he nabs 50 points next year the contract doesn't look bad at all, alongside Duchene and Giroux that seems plausible. Everyone's a winner. If I'd paid him what he's worth the Leafs match.

Sounds very reasonable. Great explanation and we got ourselves a fricking good deal for both sides!

Additionally, in this scenario, we'd lose one of Patrick, Lindblom and Myers since we couldn't afford all 3 when their contracts are up next year. Then the year after we will owe Hart and Frost. With a typical rise in the cap of 2.5-3 mil, it's not worth it to lose these guys. You'd have to pare down the contract amounts.

I agree that Kapanen is way over paid but I think it’s still quite doable with $11 mil next year. Patrick and Lindholm aren’t getting over $4 mil and Myers won’t get over 3.

Well, if Lindblom has 30 goals, and Patrick breaks out? I could see their deals being around 4. Then you have to think about if youre comfortable with Morin as being in the starting lineup, and WHAT IF Myers has a year like Ghost did in his second? Im just saying, it doesn't leave a lot of room for error, as much as Id love to have Duchene and Pesce on the team

Teams always change. They'd need to find a roster spot for Farabee most likely, plus Rubtsov might be knocking on the door. Maybe you move JVR or perhaps just moving one of Hartman or Laughton is enough. You still have MacDonald, Schlemko, and Gudas to come off the books too, that's over $8m plus any cap rise. Myers won't be getting paid a lot after what will technically be his rookie season, Patrick has done nothing so far to warrant a big pay rise, Lindblom is more likely to get money.
