The habs don't need Mike Smith while they can have Lindgren in a much cheaper contract as the backup

Lindgren is not good enough to be a backup goalie

He puts better numbers when he played in 2017-2018 than Price with the same team in front of him. Lindgren showed against Toronto last game he was ready to be Price backup

Defense was non-existent for both teams in that last game, 2 goals deflected off of Habs and Folin skated into Lindgren on another. He got scored on 5 times but he absolutely robbed multiple Leafs and looked solid. He deserves a shot and I think he'll do just fine.

the 2nd the 3rd and the 4th

Alright the 2nd goal the puck deviate and he didnt see it. Not on him. 3rd goal really ? Break away top corner perfect shot, definitely not on him. the 4th goal he reach the post but because Nylander cant do a good wrap around the puck when the other side, hit is left pad & when in after. Tell me on that goal where is Kotkaniemi and Benn ? Check

Truth is, many Habs backups haven't been good enough.....Montoya, Niemi, Condon, Scrivens, Budaj, Auld......etc

Lindgren is no worse or better than any backup the Habs have had in the past while. So Might as well give him the same opportunity as the rest. Mike Smith, will probably resign with CGY after his playoff year and frankly, Smith was garbage in CGY this year.......except for the playoffs. Not sure we can expect too much from the 38 year old.....

LOL sorry but if you think the Habs can make the playoff with a backup goalie like him, he's like a Dustin Tokarski 2.0, he make big save but can make the easy one

To be fair, that's only partially true. The Habs played much more cautiously with Lindgren in net than with Price, which helped the kid out. There's a possibility that Lindgren is ready for NHL backup role, but it isn't really certain. However, as for the particular trade proposed here, it makes no sense having to pay to get rid of Lindgren. A team like the Oilers could definitely try him out on his last year of contract in exchange for a 7th pick.

Correction: Lindgren deserves A CHANCE to be the backup next year. He has a 2.89 GAA and a .912 career save percentage in 18 NHL games. The problem is that he's trending in the wrong direction. My inclination would be to move on a sure-thing backup this summer or be prepared to make a move in November to overpay for a decent backup. While it was fun to watch, Price should not be asked to play 66 games again next year because Bergevin is too pigheaded to pay for a capable backup.

I disagree, he looked pretty bad against Toronto, that game shouldn't have been close. He has good athleticism, but his technique was awful. He looked really slow on wraparound and his rebound control was non existant. It surprises me because in 2017-18 he looked like a potential starting goalie.

I wouldnt trade him to move up 1 round in the late stages of the draft. I would give him a chance to be the backup next year, but if he isnt ready to go early I'd look for help.
