My thinking was that Chara will be gone soon, and Barrie also put up more points as a Defenseman than DeBrusk.
Despite all those points Barrie was still a negative player. He is, as mentioned like Krug, but a step down in my opinion. Also, he is only signed for one more year and will get paid by someone. Also as mentioned - Carlo and McAvoy will be on the top 2 Right side pairings for the next decade. They have pretty good young D pool when Chara eventually retires, but he is back next year as he just signed an extension. (Vaakanainan, Zboril, Lauzon, Clifton, Grzelcyk, Andersson).
At this point Debrusk has way more value than Jost. 21 vs 22 years old. Both 2 full seasons.
Jost: 141 gp 24g 25a 49pts -17
Debrusk: 138 gp 43g 42a 85pts +15
Also Jost regressed in goals from year 1 to year 2
Jost: 12 goals in 2018 --- Debrusk: 16
Jost: 11 goals in 2019 --- Debrusk 27
Jost played more games in 2019 than 2018. Debrusk played less than 2018.
The Bruins won't trade Coyle, he has been very impressive especially considering his salary
Also - If the reasoning was Bruins aging centers - Ok, but they have Studnicka, Frederic & JFK coming up + more (although likely wingers in NHL -- Shen/Lauko), not worth the risk when you know debrusk can score 25 goals in NHL. I don't know the (young) Bruins centers can do that, but i also don't know that Jost can.
