RHD Trade - bye bye Naz and Willy

Created by: Jtcurls
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 23, 2019
Published: Apr. 23, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
1. Need a RHD to play 1st pair with Reilly. Could be Larsson, Pesce or one of Ekholm or Ellis. Personally I think best fit is with Nashville or Edmonton.

3. Stop trading Zaitsev and leave him with Muzzin. We need RHD and they were good in playoffs. This would allow Lillegren orSandin to make the team as 6 or 7. If not then Rosen gets the spot with Dermott until we trade for upgrade around January

4. Trade one of Nylander or Kadri for the needed cap relief and as part of package to get the needed defenseman.

5. Sign Tyler Ennis. Did you see *** good the 4 th lin3 looked with he and Moore on it.

6. Free Bracco. Finally give this guy a chance on the 3rd line. Could be Kapanen in a couple of years. We need some young cheap guys if we are going to pay Mitchwhat he is going to ask for.

7. Stop dreaming up ways to not pay Marleau. Babcock needs to explain to him his role on 3rd line next year and see if he wants to return. No one else is taking his contract and unless he wants to leave the NMC means he is ours.

How about a second rounder in 2020

I think it was already pretty close but if you don’t how does this look now

All excellent points, and an entirely accurate analysis. I would prefer trading Nylander for the right-handed Brett Pesce instead of the left-handed Mattias Ekholm. You'd need to shave half a million off the payroll, but I'm sure that could be done. For example, do you think Mitch Marner's playoff performance solidified his claim to be paid $10M?

Nylander has a huge hit, was awful this year and no showed in the playoffs again. Ekholm is an #1D who averages nearly 24 minus a night and is signed to a crazy team friendly deal. Honestly I don't see why Nashville would want him.

Outside of Anderson he was really the only noticable player they had that could generate.

I agree but don’t think Pesce is available after the run Carolina has had. I think Faulk is available but prefer Ekholm even though left handed.

I expect Marner to sign for 10-10.5. Might be 4,5 or6 years.

Oi JTC...
US$7M on the fourth line and at the wing position is BOLD!
IMO that's where the "Armchair GM-ing" has to start. Free Willy and the rest of the roster begins to clarify and some instant breathing room is obtained (thus Bracco fills the Willy hole).......
That said, I still think NK & CB on other teams in 2019/20 works well too!

Marner is getting 11 million at least. He has the greediest agent in the league.

Lets not forget how bad the preds were offensively. Nylander after he is paid his bonus on July 1 is only owed a fraction of his salary for the next 5 years. Plus he did have 122+ points the last 2 years.

Nope and no one is offer sheeting him and giving up 4 x 1st rounders.

He is signing shorter term deal for lower average just like Matthews did.

He's still owed around $25 million and has roughly a $7 million hit. Its easier to find high-end forwards...its not as easy to find high-end d-men.

Good points x 2:
Thinking NASH is a possible trading partner (Poile out in round 1, not a happy camper) but more toward giving TO Cap relief and taking a "flyer on Nylander" than giving up "core-pieces". Could 1-for-1 trades be possible w/ forward names such as Turris? Granlund? Bonino? Jarnkrok? or Watson? - the gritty need by the Leafs?
Don't see any D-men expendable on NSH for TO...have to look elsewhere for D-help?

Understand cap troubles with NSH trade. I think rather than Ekholm, put Ellis in the deal. Both have had down times and salaries are about the same. Might as well swap the salaries and at least get something both teams need.

*Wants a RHD*
*Trades for Ekholm, PK Subban's iconic left handed partner*
Larsson is a good RHD, not worth Taylor Hall but he's good, he's not a top pairing RD. He's best served to being a 2RD behind someone.

Nashville decline, the only dman on their blueline that will be moved is Subban.

Perhaps that is what they will want but no trading partner for Subban without retaining a bunch of salary
