Don't really know Dermott for Jokiharju. Just thought they're both young, both solid skaters, both can move the puck. Chicago needs LHD/Toronto could use RHD

Not a Leafs fan so

Easily movable? Yiiiikes. He wants to play. He has a contract. He likes Toronto. He has a full nmc. He plays

Lol. Do you not know how NMC's work? They're not permanent. They can be waived. & There's been nothing that's come out and said he wants to stay or retire. You don't know that. I don't know that. What we do know is that his contract structure was designed to make his contract tradeable in the final season.. they've had it planned out for longer than just now. They'll know what they'll do already.

I doubt he'll retire either, but saying I doubt he retires and there is no way they can move him period are two very different things. My guess is he doesn't retire, which is why I had him in the lineup in my post. If he does though, then the whole off season is simple.

It’s still pretty tricky in my opinion. Can we all agree that unless he decides to retire, he is unmovable?

There really aren’t. If you can think of one let me know, but I don’t think it’s possible

Marleau retires, his contract is moved. Marleau gets orpik’d. I just saw another creative idea where he is traded at 50% to the sharks for Braun.

I think the Orpik thing is pretty far fetched. First off, whatever team that buys him out would have to pay his bonus. Second, I think of a 35 plus contract, the league would crack down on it. I think both the sharks and Marleau say no. Him retiring is, I suppose, a possibility, but I think it’s a real long shot.

I agree on all points. The orpik deal doesn’t make sense due to the fact that his cap hit remains. But the money owed when he is bout our turns into 400k. For that to be possible he has to be bought out before July 1st which means he loses money. I don’t see that as viable.

The only reason I even contemplate him retiring is how quickly dubas snatched up muzzin as soon as he had Mathews number. Which means he had a plan to move 6m from next season. The Marleau contract fits the cap requirements nicely. Then again so do some other moves. But it leaves us short staffed in positions where the absence of Marleau does not. It’s going to be an interesting off season.

The buyout window is before July 1st, so the team who buys him out would have to pay the full bonus

If he is bought out they don’t have to pay his signing bonus. Actual cost would be 832k.... 416k this year and 416k next season. SonI guess you could argue that a team night him out to save 700k but that’s some thin ice.

It’s straight from the buyout calculator. Correction* you are right his signing bonus would need to be paid out. So really no reason to buy him out.
