Yeah, your right. Top 2 D are really easy to find and come cheap. The leafs will be able to keep Matthews and Tavares and then sign Marner, Kapanen and Johnsson and stay under the cap. Probably get Braydon Point on an offer sheet too. If you have criticism at least add some substance.

Oel is 27 years old and not elite enough imo. Carlson couldnt even fetch Matthews.

Now
Heiskanen For Matthews would be closer in value

The substance is right there... that is a piss poor trade of a lhd that we don’t need and a first for our franchise centre... you are also 10m over budget.

If you think we are moving Matthews to make the cap work you are off your meds.

That doesn’t Get the job done either. We are full on the left side. I love the way he plays but just not a good fit.

Interesting, but I can't see trading for a 19 year old that still has a lot to learn when the Leafs are in win now mode... even with his upside. Dallas has plenty of top 6 forwards already. OEL is 27 but still a 5 years of his prime that line up with Toronto's window to contend.

I'm not moving Matthews for cap space... I'm moving him for a top pair defenceman in his prime who's an upgrade on anything they have now, the 14th pick in this years draft AND the cap space to sign 2 or 3 top six forwards (Marner, Kapanen and/or Johnsson). Not a bad return for a very good player who for some bizarre reason doesn't get 20 minutes of ice time in a playoff elimination game.

Lol... OEL is not an upgrade on Rielly... this trade is no where close to realistic. We have Rielly, Muzzin and dermott on the left. No need for OEL.

The fact that you are trying to argue this is ridiculous. It is literally the worst Matthews trade that has ever been proposed on this site.

The only reason the Leafs would move Matthews would be for cap relief....plus a good return. Certainly acquiring OEL who is going to be the third highest Dmen in the league next year certainly a help to the Leafs cap. Now and long term, OEL doesn't seem to good value. Now I think Matthew is overpaid too, but still OEL may have peaked for his on ice performance.
