For MTL, depends who's still available. I dont know Timmins list ( York Caufield Heinola ) but not a 2nd round pick to move 5 spots MTL draft ( Lehkonen Brook Romanov ) with 2nd round pick, too valuable

As much as I think the values of these trades are spot on, no NHL team floats their picks around like that. This isn't realistic in the slightest. For instance, the difference between Leivo and Rust is a mid/late second round pick. That's about the same value as what you did, but it make more logical sense.

First round picks are hard to move. Depth moves aren't how you move a first round pick.

if its a guy like caufield (hiighly doubt he's available at 10) but if he is, then mtl makes that trade

For Caufield yes, but between York Heinola Harley Broberg, I'll pick who's available at 15th.

Not even for more roster flexibility? It sounds like you guys want to do a mini overhaul and you need some cap space to do that. Leivo and Rust score at a similar rate but Leivo would be cheaper. The picks are also relatively close together as it's a late 1st for a mid 2nd.

I think there's a decent chance that at least one of Caufield or Podkolzin is available at 10th OA with an outside chance that someone like Cozens drops. Chances are that there will be another defenseman chosen inbetween Byram and Montreal's pick as well, so if the goal is to land him it might be worth it to move up. I'm not gonna pretend to know who Montreal covets, but those are just scenarios where moving up could make sense based on what you've said.

The Penguins moved Sundqvist and a 1st to land Reaves and a 2nd (20 spot difference, pretty much the same as this proposal) to address a perceived need. This trade would be almost the exact same thing, except instead of addressing toughness they would be addressing cap space.

As a caps fan it’s okay in my opinion but I’m sure they can find away to get rid of niskys contract without trading a first.

Rust > Leivo

Not sure how you justify Pitt adding a first.

MTL doesnt need to trade their 15 oa. It also wouldnt cost a second to move up 5 for a draft that is a question mark after 2. But the worst thing about this post is that there is no Brock Boeser...just why

The Washington 1st and Vancouver 2nd are only about 15-20 spots apart. They are not the same, but similar. It's just the optics of trading a 1st rounder that some people don't like in the Reaves trade the Penguins only moved down 15-20 spots as well. It doesn't make a monumental difference.

Pittsburgh is only moving down about 20 spots in the draft. It's not a huge difference in value. Rust is better than Leivo 1 for 1 but not significantly and given the Penguins need cap space I think it makes sense. The difference in value between Rust/Leivo (small) and 20 picks (small) is made up by the difference in cap space.

I didn't do anything with the lineups, just wanted to hear thoughts on the trade ideas.
