Here is what grandpa gonna do

Created by: slimpickens
Team: 2019-20 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: May 5, 2019
Published: May 6, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I realize my 3rd line of benson/marody/puljujarvi might get eaten alive, but with the cap issues, 2-3 players might need to make the jump from Bakersfield and Puljujärvi won’t clear waivers. But also, maybe they do alright as a 3rd scoring line?

Rather than overpaying in free agency, I went and got Daniel Carr as another cheap option for depth scoring. Offer sheet for Kapanen is iffy, but with Mitch marner needing a big contract, it might be tough for the leafs to keep Kapanen.

Benning for brown? Is that realistic? Someone tell me.

Overall, I might be thinking too much about scoring with this team, let me know your thoughts! Does this team get eaten alive on the PK?

IMO - Vegas declines, a team in contention up against the cap declines the extra cap hit for lesser player.
Leafs decline the brown trade, not fair value IMO
Leafs match the offer sheet and trade Nylander or kadri instead of letting kap go in exchange for only a 2nd

Vegas declines, I agree, but leafs accept. Brown has been pushed down the depth charts and is playing on their 4th line.

With the Colin miller trade, I did include two sweeteners with the pick and the B-level prospect.. Russell is everyday NHLer, still not enough though? Is a higher pick required to get it done?

As for the Toronto stuff, I see that happening. Oilers might be able to buy-low on kadri or Nylander then... Toronto needs to clear cap space one way or another

This is only IMO
I grew up with Russel, he’s a central Alberta boy. Doubt he waived his NTC to go to Vegas
Plus even with the sweetners Vegas can’t take the extra cap, I think sekera is the D man more likely to try a trade, a team like Ottawa, Arizona, islander teams with cap on the rise would be better partner to add the sweetners (prospects and picks) to take the extra cap hits in d man swaps
On the leafs side, I would prefer to see Nylander traded over kap or kadri. Only cause we need the extra grit in kadri and I like kaps energy over Nylander.
Nylander for Larsen and a decent amount of extras might have more since then benning for brown

What about Nylander for Larsen and bear/Bouchard
Is that interesting at all as a starting ground?
Not saying it’s a straight up trade just wondering if there is a deal there to start negotiating on?

Bouchard is our near future number 1 D, Oilers will not trade him! Right shot D always have extra value compared to left shot D (Larson)........ It is what it is.

Larsen is also a RHD
Is bear untouchable? Also a RHD
Nylander for bear and Larsen? Any starting point there?
Just asking

I had an idea of 2019 1st 8th overall and bear an maybe a 3rd or something else for johnnson an kap gives you guys a very good prospect to develop a rhd an a pick could add but I think its s decent idea

My feelings are Johnsson and kap should stay on the leafs, would prefer to move,
Nylander 1st then explore kadri before Johnson or Kapanen

Bear is not untouchable, and you could certainly start a conversation with those names.

Holland would have to find a Larsson replacement before he can let him go.

Re: Benning for Brown, the value is okay (IMO Benning is worth more), but I think it's more likely that Brown gets traded for a 4th round pick so the Leafs get full cap relief. I have listed similar trades a couple of times: Benning to X for a prospect + pick, then flip the pick to Toronto for Brown.

Too bad the Leafs and Oilers are up against the cap because they are "on ice " trade possibilities.
For cap reasons, Leafs might want to do a Nylander trade, but the need team that can only trade back futures.

Two things,

1) Leafs have no interest in Benning, he isn't good. You can have Brown for a 3rd rounder.
2) If Kapanen and the Leafs aren't close when July 1 rolls around, and an offer sheet is a real threat, they will trade him for more than a 2nd. They won't pay him this kind of money, nor does he deserve it so he'll get moved for a good return. He won't be hard to move for a fair package.
