The time is to add high end talent and lock up our players with our cap, not adding more picks. Adding these cap dumps is a few years too late.

This is how I look at it! Is Faulk worth a top 10 pick alone? No. Then why would Oilers trade top ten pick for Faulk and $3M a year for 4 years

Faulk is absolutely not worth a top 10 pick. He’s not even worth Puljujärvi, he’s a free agent next summer.

The idea of this trade is to help it not be a top 10 pick.... Faulk is still a premier D man, yes he only has a year left, but he can QB a PP, and he has continued to get a lot better defensively, he may be one of the more underrated D men in the league. Say that's pick 20 for example, we're not having this conversation

If you can add picks without changing your roster, why not? Especially top-10 picks - they manifest themselves fairly quickly most of the time.

What I don't get is this:

Eriksson / Lucic at $3M = negative value, top-10 pick must be given up
Eriksson / Lucic at $1.5M = positive value, 13th overall / 2 x 32nd overall picks coming back!

These things don't add up. I realize I simplified the trades and didn't quantify all the moving pieces, but the fact remains that if VAN / EDM have to give up a HUGE future piece to get rid of a $3M player, no way is that player suddenly worth a HUGE future piece at $1.5M.
