Interesting that Point would sign for 9m (which might be pretty fair) but so many comments having Marner not making less than 11m.

It's almost like Toronto prices are overblown by the media or something...

I mean if Mark Stone is getting 9.5 mil Point is worth at least 10 and Marner around 10.5 haha

I don't know what comes first. The media reading CapFriendly, and then reporting about the overblown price of Marner or CapFriendly GMs reading/watching the media and believing them about Marner expectations.

It’s possible that in the extremely unlikely circumstance in which this trade happens that Point would sign for 9 with his hometown team

Not to be controversial, but Monahan put up 10 less points than Point this year....and he's making 6.3 ish mill, and Point is set to make probably a minimum of 9.5 mil....Wouldn't CGY be fine with having a cheaper option even with a little less production. I know Point is filthy and young and still has potential to be better, but if I am CGY, I'm looking at Toronto and their forward/contract situation and saying I'm fine with an 80 point number 1 center making 6 mil, instead of 10.

Point > Marner
Then add the fact that point is a centre which is a huge thing aav wise.
Marner's price is WAY overblown

I think Point has the higher ceiling, and could elevate the team beyond what Monahan has, which is important after this years disappointing playoffs.
Plus you're bringing in the hometown kid. What's not to love?

My point was that it would just be pricier but true
