Subban is hard to move, even with Nashville not having to deal with his old NMC. Not many teams have 9 million in cap space floating around. That's an anchor. If he was at 6-7 million I'd say ok, you can find someone. But he's not worth 9 million and many teams simply don't have 9 million in space.

As far as signing MD, he's gonna want more than 8.5. I think he'll ask for 10. I'm not saying he'll get 10, but he'll ask for it until he gets more than 8.5. The center pool in FA is weak. He'll play people off each other. Lets be honest, he does have an attitude that would suggest that. Not that I blame him.

Sharks probably do the Bonino trade if they lose out on signing Duchene in FA. Time to come home to the team that drafted him.

Yea either him or Ellis is gone for forward help but this was just show people who says nashville will need to move alot to fit Duchene in. It really only takes Bonino to fit him. You get more cap space if you move turris subban or Ellis but just moving a 4.1 million dollar cap hit would be enough to get Duchene

Signing a 9 or 10 million would be almost the same money as it would be signing in Tennessee flordia texas due to no state tax. Duchene has already showed that he likes nashville and if he is giving a 8.5 million a year contract for 7 years I believe he'll come here but thats jist my feeling

that is nonsense and it shows you don't know how the taxes work. Any bonus money, and it could be structured so it's all bonus, is taxed in the players state of residence. Hence negating any kind of "state" advantage.
So yeah, he's not signing for less just to go to Nashville.
Fans frequently make foolish notions that playing for a team is some kind of benefit worth not making 10+ million over their career. You are just flat wrong on that. This is a job for them, they do it to get paid.

So kuch and stamkos who probably would got 10 or 10.5 to go to another team decided to stay in Tampa why? Having to pay no state income tax is a benefit whether you like it or not. Just like playing for toronto is a benefit for sponsor money. Duchene likes nashville and he has made it known by stuff he has done. Unless someone gives he an outrageous amount like 10 plus million a year then I think he chooses the place he wants to raise his family and has a good chance to win him a cup. Nashville has to be on that short list

did you read nothing I said. Any team can convert the salary to signing bonus and they pay 0 state tax, as long as they live in a tax free state already. Period. It's not even an argument. That is simply THE LAW.

Guys signing these long term contracts move (with their families) to where they sign 99% of the time, and most NHL players (maybe not fringe NHLers) have multiple homes across multiple states/provinces, which complicates matters even more, so you’re oversimplifiying your argument to the point which basically makes it crap.

It is known that state and provincial taxes have an impact on players choosing where to sign. It is not the main reason for choosing where to go. But posturing that taxes have no impact is just being stupid.

no it's not. You declare one residency. That's it. that's your tax home. As long as you are present in the state you are playing in for over 6 months then you aren't tax liable. And players aren't in their teams state for over 6 months. Because A. they play half their games away and B. when they have time off they leave. A simple google search would have told you this.
